Fermented with a Belgian ale yeast, this blend of barley & wheat malts yields a mixture of clove and fruity aromas, all without the use of any spices. Deliberately brewed to retain a cloudy appearance.

12 oz bottle served in a tall pilsner style glass

This has long been one of my favorite beers to get growlered. I'm very glad to see it in bottles finally.

Like many other wheat beers, this is one where you want to swirl that last half ounce around in the bottle before you pour it into the glass. It picks up the sediment from the bottle, which enhances the flavor dramatically.

Beer poured a very cloudy golden/yellow with 2 inch bubbly sticky head. Like most wheat beers I've tried, the head left very little to no lacing.

Smell was wonderful. golden ripe banana and warm bread.

Taste was very clean and simply delicious. ripe bananas and sweet apple. Strong yeast characteristics.

Mouthfeel was good. Minimal carbonation. This beer feels light and airy on the tounge.

Still one of my all time favorites.

My typical standard of measurement for wit beers is Hoegaarden. Bell's Winter White might be my new standard. First off, I love that they used the white winter theme to brew a beer like this out of season. Typically, wheat beers can only be found fresh during the summer. It is nice to know you can find one light and refreshing in the winter too as a six-month old wit beer sipped in January would almost certainly be stale. Not this--it had a crisp clean freshness that comes only from hefty doses of wheat played against the musty phenols of the belgian yeast. I could not smell or taste any orange or coriander, lemon or lemongrass, just nice round full bready yeast. Even the color was pale yellow, though not as white as Hoegaarden. It did not feel overly fizzy or thin, as can sometimes be the case for this style. Excellent drinker. High marks all around.

12oz beer poured into a snifter - Fridge temp - 2008

Appearance: Pours a cloudy golden yellow/light orange with a 1" white head that has decent retention. Bubbles stick to the sides of the glass. A yeast haze slides around in the liquid.

Smell: Strong wheat aroma mixed with pale malt. Belgian wit yeast, minerals and a light banana/clove in the background.

Taste: Tastes much like a summer Belgian White Ale. Strong wheat malt, banana and citrus. Spicy with underlying clove and pepper. Very nice.

Mouthfeel: Very sweet and satisfying with a great quenching flavor. Mild carbonation and alcohol. Spicy and loose.

Drinkability: Extremely good. This is not a winter beer, but it should be. This style can be appreciated no matter what the season. I love it.

soft golden color, it does have a cloudiness. It has a light citrus odor. This is a very tasty, easy drinking beer. It reminds me of a blend between a Honey Weiss and Blue Moon. There is a slight aftertaste that reminds me of a Belgian tripel wheat just not as pronounced. This was a winner if you don't care for real dark or hoppy beers

Poured from 12 Oz bottle.

Wonderfully hazy, murky gold liquid.

Supremely wheat spicy aroma.

Flavor is complex. Starts sweet but ends dry. Lots of spices. True to style.

Picked this one up at Trader Joe's last weekend.

Pours a bit of a hazy yellow color, nice white head on it. Smells sweet, citrusy, with a bit of spice to it. Taste is very refreshing. Very smooth, wheat with lemon taste. Good medium bodied beer. I really enjoyed this beer. Very good drinkability, I'll definitely be looking for this beer in the future.

Poured into a pint glass from a bottle packaged 10/28/11

A-With an aggressive pour a cloudy light yellow color with a couple fingers of pillowy head quickly breaking down into barely a hint of a white ringing foam.

S-Sweet Belgian yeast (plenty of fruity esters-banana). Typical wheat aroma. A hint of spicy hops in there too.

T-Typical of a witbier, but so clean and smooth. Lots of sweet belgian yeast, a significant amount of wheat and just the right amount of spices. Lighter in the citrus flavors of most. I love this beer.

M-Extremely smooth mouthfeel. Light to medium carbonation, a nice little bite of spicy hops at the end but finishes clean. A little more of a bitter end note than many.

D-About as high as a beer gets. I could drink this one any time of year in just about any quantity.

O-This witbier really does it for me. Not overally spiced or flavored, but a beautiful smooth taste that is simply delicious from start to finish. It does taste a bit more like a hefeweizen (fruits present are more banana than citrus) than most.
