Fermented with a Belgian ale yeast, this blend of barley & wheat malts yields a mixture of clove and fruity aromas, all without the use of any spices. Deliberately brewed to retain a cloudy appearance.

A - Murky straw, small near white head, some cling.

S - Massive vegetation. Asparagus, other green veggies, clovel. Past that, some malt and barn like earthiness.

T - Tangy, earthy, more veggies in there and the wheat is now present.

M - Light body, good carbonation, weird balance.

D - I like my veggie on a plate, but it was fun to try.

Poured a hazy straw yellow into a pint glass with a sudsy white head that quickly frothed to a negligible film and left no lacing. Aroma is sour, with orange, spice, coriander, a little clove. Mouthfeel is a little slippery and very spiny with carbonation. Taste is banana, lemon, no tartness from the aroma, slightly grassy, finishing with an odd dry hop bite. Drinkability is moderate due to what is in my opinion a slightly unbalanced hop bitterness. Overall this is an ok beer, nothing more, nothing less.

bell's winter white ale-
this beer pours a a pale cloudy. it has a yellowish tint- looks good. the taste is spicy with a light citrus. this is a really refreshing beer- not as dark and robust as a lot of winter seasonals. this is a really drinkable winter ale. i actually did some yard work this morning and came inside and cracked this open- turned out to be a really good choice, this is a good afternoon, lighter beer. its fresh flavored, who says you have to have dark beer in the winter anyways?

Appearance is almost typical of a witbier. Just a bit more head and it would do it. That cloudy lemon yellow color is there with the high carbonation giving life to this brew. Head is white and very small, something more than a thick film would give this beer a better and more appetizing appearance. However small the head may be it does have good retention. It hasn't really moved at all since I poured it. I guess its in line with others of the style-Holy Moses, Hoegaarden, and Blue Moon. Lacing is good-leaving a solid wall around the glass.

Aroma is fully wheat. There is just a little bit of orange and coriander aroma along with that of some weak spices. For a witbier I would expect something more.

To the tongue it tastes like a witbier should. But then again, for me its just meeting expectations, not exceeding them. As far as witbiers go I'd rather Hoegaarden than this. Wheat is the main flavor here, its after taste is actually quite nice. All the flavor is there. The orange, coriander and spices seem to reside there. A little bit of sweet orange flavor when it first hits the tongue.

This brew has a lighter sprity body and is quite refreshing. High carbonation give life to this brew's body and compliment the flavor. The only beef I've with this brew is that it is a winter seasonal. This isn't the type of brew I want to drink in the winter. Were it released in the summer months I can assure you I'd probably buy it again. Becasue its released now, when I want something heavy and hearty I doubt I'll buy this again anytime soon. Other than that its a great brew, not quite up there with Hoegaarden though.

Got this beer in a recent trade. 12oz bottle, packaged 11/15/11...

A: A hazy lemon color with a small 1/2 inch white head that fades at a decent pace. Decent.

S: I get a musty lemon scent upfront with some spices quickly becoming prominent. Decent.

T: I get an acidic mild breadiness upfront quickly subdued by a mild puckering lemon blended with some breadiness. Decent.

M: Medium body with a huge carbonation. A bready finish. Decent.

O: All in all, I'll preface by saying I'm not a huge fan of witbiers. That being said, this one is a little syrupy and has that classic Witbier taste. A good representation of the style, but overall not a great beer. It's decent, but nothing to write home about. Try this if you like the style.
