Notes/Commercial Description:
Fermented with a Belgian ale yeast, this blend of barley & wheat malts yields a mixture of clove and fruity aromas, all without the use of any spices. Deliberately brewed to retain a cloudy appearance.

One of the many midwest brews obtained through BIF14. Finally starting to review these goodies.

Very nice winter scene on the label, with white-capped trees and a snowy knoll.
Beer pours a dark straw color with only a bit of carbonation. A very weak off white head quickly trailed off.
Initially smell all the right esters, banana, and medicine. As it warmed, some very earthy and musky smells were evident.
Very smooth and creamily wheat controlled brew. All the usuals are in there (citrus, banana, spicy yeast, etc.) but they are well controlled and almost muted by the wheat.\
Finishes very clean and refreshing. Didn't wow me, but I wouldn't mind another.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle, batch 8250

A: Pours a hazy pale yellow/straw under a fizzy small white head that dissipates quickly, with no lace.

S: Coriander and bubble gum up front, with some citrus behind. Eventually gives way to a very nice wheat character.

T: Bubble gum up front, wheat is very apparent, a little yeast, some subtle hints of citrus and a peppery quality in the finish. Very nice taste.

M/D: Nice light body, carbonation is high but seems right for the beer, very crisp and refreshing. At 4.5%, refreshing, really no off qualities aside from a lackluster appearance, this one is highly drinkable and highly reccomended.

Are there better, more complex wits out there? Absolutely. But this one is very very solid. My opinion, stock up near March and enjoy during the summer months as well.

Type: on-tap pint
Glass: pint glass
From: Casey's Tavern in Ann Arbor
Price: $4.50

Appearance: a deep and hazy gold. opaque. by time i got it there was no head left and the lacing was gone as well

Smell: a little bit of wheat, fruit and clove.

Taste: follows the nose pretty well. definitely a wheat taste to it, along with what i now taste as banana and a good mixture of cloves.

Mouthfeel: light and crisp. a good mix-up from all the stouts, barleywines and bourbon beers i have been having this winter

Overall: another solid seasonal from Bell's. not a beer that i am gonna race to get next winter, but it sure hits the spot after a bit of a burn out on heavier and darker drinks. easy to find as most MI bars have a Bell's seasonal option

Poured into a chalice. Cloudy light orange in color, sparkling with minimal head. Smell is sour lemon, musty oranges, and pepper. Taste is loaded with lemon with some mixes of other spices. Not that complicated or interesting, but light and very refreshing.

Poured into a pint glass from a bottle packaged 10/28/11

A-With an aggressive pour a cloudy light yellow color with a couple fingers of pillowy head quickly breaking down into barely a hint of a white ringing foam.

S-Sweet Belgian yeast (plenty of fruity esters-banana). Typical wheat aroma. A hint of spicy hops in there too.

T-Typical of a witbier, but so clean and smooth. Lots of sweet belgian yeast, a significant amount of wheat and just the right amount of spices. Lighter in the citrus flavors of most. I love this beer.

M-Extremely smooth mouthfeel. Light to medium carbonation, a nice little bite of spicy hops at the end but finishes clean. A little more of a bitter end note than many.

D-About as high as a beer gets. I could drink this one any time of year in just about any quantity.

O-This witbier really does it for me. Not overally spiced or flavored, but a beautiful smooth taste that is simply delicious from start to finish. It does taste a bit more like a hefeweizen (fruits present are more banana than citrus) than most.

Picked up a single at Riley's here in Madison.

Pours the cloudiest, orange-juice gold with a finger of white head on top. Nose is peppery, with hints of clove and banana esters and musty wheat. Taste is extremely dry, pepper/clove spicy and heavy on the yeast. Mouthfeel is pretty thick due to all the suspended yeast, co2 is lively. Overall wasn't too impressed with this one. I looks pretty, but is so dry it lacks any real character.

A- A very thin lacing appears after the pour and recedes quickly to an unimpressive cap with no lacing. The beer, because of the sediment is rather cloudy, which I like.

S- Nice orange, banana, wheat, and also smells of some juicy apple, with a hint of pepper and maybe a touch of straw.

T- Initially, because of the very close nose of this and the batch 8000 witbier, I thought they may be one in the same, but after the tasting, I conclude that they're indeed, different. Right up from I get some big coriander, some odd banana, and a bit of the apple. There isn't a large pepper component but it's there, mainly in the finish.

M- Low/Medium Spritzy carbonation that works pretty well with the style and also leaves a nice, slightly dry finish.

D- Overall, I prefer the batch 8000 for bells witbiers, and to be honest, would rather grab another witbier as this isn't anything special.
