A - Copper with a sturdy two finger head.
S - Malts and hints of floral
T - Grains are the most noticeable part of the beer, has a bit of spice.
M - Medium body that finishes fairly smooth.
O - Nothing stands out here, Bells make exceptional beer. This is not one of them.

Backlogged review from camping in St. Mary, MT. Full notes taken on my phone.

A- Slightly cloudy golden body poured from the 12oz bottle to a goblet. A white cap builds to about one finger with a foamy thick texture. Decent retention leads to a thick frothy ring dropping sheets and rings of lace on the glass.

S- Probably just about equal balance of hops and malts for me here. Hops are spicy, floral, earthy with a touch of fruit. Malts give biscuit and pale caramel notes.

T- Hops gain an edge here and soak the taste buds with floral and spicy notes with hints of citrus, earth and grass beyond that. This is balanced by cereal grain, biscuit, pale caramelized and slight malt sweetness. Just a bit of fruit from the yeast.

MF- Light bodied with a foamy texture with any agitation. Carbonation at a medium high level and a medium spicy bitterness coats the palate in the finish.

Solid pale ale that brings a solid dose of floral and spicy notes rather than the intense fruity and citrus bombs that trend today. Spicy hops balance nicely with the malts used for a base.

Clear golden, decent initial head, some lacing.

Mostly a pilsnery smell, some grassy hops, and a bit of macro grain.

Macro grain/pilsner dominates the flavor profile as well. Subtle sweet and grassy notes in the finish.

Smooth mouthfeel, minimal carbonation.

This was all right, but didn't really excite me and seems to be rather atypical for an APA.

I was introduced to Bell’s brews on tap about a year ago and was impressed. Since I’m partial to traditional pale ales I picked up a bottle of this to sample at home.

Appearance: Golden with a slight haze and a moderate head, not much lace. Unusual carbonation with visible tiny bubbles or sediment suspended in solution.

Smell: More like a lager than an ale: malty yeasty sweet, little to no hops

Taste: Bready yeast with a crisp hop balance and some spicy bitterness in the aftertaste. Well crafted, nothing harsh about it. I’m particularly curious about this strain of ale yeast.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and sparkling – again, more like a lager than an ale

Overall: True to the pale ale style, this beer impressed me with its balance and its distinctive yeast character. I will seek it out again – especially if it’s fresher than the one I tried.
