Draft pint at the Roxbury Tavern, quick review from notes.

Brownish black in the glass, reddish brown highlights around the edges. Frothy tan foam has a creamy surface texture and is fairly dense. As the head dissipates, it leaves behind a collar of lace in the glass.

Dry bakers chocolate aroma, unsweetened and a little roasty. Not super assertive, but mellow and nice enough.

Lightly bitter roastiness, mild coffee and dry bakers chocolate traces. Light bodied with mellow carbonation, pretty drinkable stuff. Classic British porter, not too aggressive and lends itself well to sessioning.

Reviewed from notes.

Deep garnet color with a short-lived head and no lacing. Thin, watery body and medium-light carbonation. Really the thing that needs the most work on this one is the watery, thin texture. The chocolate and peppery spice over roasted malt combination going on here is actually somewhat interesting but the constant distraction the sparseness of the texture provides gets in the way of actually enjoying the flavor. The nose is also a bit muted on top. Needs some adjustment to shine.

Deep brown body with a solid medium tan head with real nice lacing. Scent is roasty as is much of the flavor that s accented by chocolate and smoke. The feel has a medium body with a very slight coarseness in the ending. Overall this is a solid porter, a bit overwhelming in the roastiness but decent nonetheless.

a nice porter here from port huron, my second of their beers. its almost like a brown ale meets a porter, the lighter side in terms of taste and feel. there is as much chocolate on this as there is bitter roast, maybe even more of it. dark in looks but lighter in taste. not much head, but plenty of carbonation on the feel, i like this side of porter, the more drinkable side, perfect for early fall. the only thing i dont like about it is the aftertaste, its a little tannic and a little metallic, weird lingering bitterness doesnt belong, but the beer itself tastes great. i love all the chocolate malt and the medium body. its a real drinkable porter, well done overall.
