330ml bottle poured into a Coronado Belgian-style tulip; "ale brewed with pumpkin and habenero chili"; digging the label art on this

p- black as night; no head- just a thin light tan ring
n- semi-sweet roast with some sweet pumpkin; habenero toward the end
t- roasted malts pair with pumpkin notes forward to mid-palate; finishes with habenero heat and a med alcohol presence; heat lingers; balanced yet contrasted flavors; the heat compels you to take another sip; spices come out as it warms
mf- light-med bodied (a bit light for the style); med carb level; slick
o- a fairly well-made RIS, imo; could use a few tweaks, but absolutely unique and quite tasty; happy I grabbed it!

On tap at Haand Beer Festival 2013, Drammen. Pitch black colour, creamy and lasting tan head. Sweetish aroma of pumpkin and vanilla, also roasty notes of chocolate and coffee. Smooth flavour for an impy stout of this strength, medium sweet, malts, molasses and pumpkin, with a solid chili burn all down your throat afterwards. Interesting beer - and quite exciting that it comes from a Spanish brewery.

Note: Sampled again on tap at BierCaB, RBESG 2016 in Barcelona. Dramatically different rating: "Pumpkin, sweet, molasses. Not a beer for me. Overall 9/20". However, I keep the rating from Haaand Festival, as I was somewhat more sober then.

Pours into a snifter jet black with a thinner mocha colored head atop,no light getting thru that body.Big sweet alcohol and chocolate mixed with pumpkin spice, cinnamon and clove stand out most, heavy handed alcohol.Big and sweet on the palate,I get alot of deep raisin flavors with chocolate and lingering habenero in the finish that lingers. This does get cloying after a bit and becomes harder for me to drink,a slick low carbonated feel.Starts out nice but for me just too much sweetness and alcohol to finish.

11.2 ounce bottle.

It pours a pitch black with an inch of tan foam, lacing is okay.

Caramel and roasted malt nose with dark chocolate, coffee, kind of a mild fruity kick. And, there's something with some heat in there, besides the alcohol. Light Pumpkin spice.

Sweet caramel, chocolate and coffee, heavy on the roast, good pepper burn in the finish. Pretty long lasting finish. Pumpkin spices very light.

High end of medium bodied, adequate carbonation.

Burn baby burn.

Poured to a Mikkeller taster.

A: Body is pitch black. Head is 5mm thick with yellow to brown color that vanishes quite fast.
S: In the aroma, pumpkin, chili, spices and a great tone of roasted instant coffee that's better than average.
T: Taste starts off with sweet tones of pumpkin then moving to a toasty and roasty minor bitterness.
M: Body is medium. Carbonation is good and high. Bitterness is mild, sweetness is mild but hot spiciness is off the charts, way too prominent.
O: Good start on flavours but ends badly with the spices. Wouldn't have tried it if the label stated the use of it. I'm sorry about this as I know that Naparbier is a great brewer but in my terms, no one should use hot spices on beers.

Look: Pours black and forms body of the same. Lit from beneath reveals a deep brown/garnet ring around the edges of the glass.

Smell: Roasty malt on the nose, sugar/honey, hint of alcohol at the very back of the nose.

Taste: Big roasted notes up front, sweet malt and cocoa on the middle tongue which rapidly fades to a lingering finish of black coffee and baker's chocolate. Mild heat from the chilis (sadly little tang from the same) on the back of the tongue and throat.

Feel: Thick and syrupy with minimal carbonation, contrasts sharply with the light pricking of the chilis. A bit of an incongruous sip.

Overall: I will parrot the others and say that this is a chili stout first and a pumpkin ale second. Honestly, I detected no pumpkin at all save for maybe a few hints here and there, but nothing substantial.

330 ml bottle, Cafe Dulcina, Bristol - Pours jet black with a small tanned foamy head which quickly disappears. Aroma - roasted malts, hints of chilli, light pumpkin feel. Taste - Sweet start, followed by roasted malts, coffee, chilli kick in, long, dry, bitter finish. On the threshold for me in terms of chilli kick.

Interesting beer. Pours a very deep brown with minimal, dissipating head. I see most reviewers call this jet black, but in the light you can observe that outer ring is dark brown, while in totality it is of course more opaque, and seemingly black. I have seen beers that were black through and through, with all brown hues toast-murdered.

The aroma is actually pretty great, and shows that there are some great ideas happening here. Molasses, ripe gourd, allspice, clove, and soy sauce.

The taste is complex, but not terribly harmonious. Pumpkin receives top billing in the name, but it, along with the dark spices that season it, are tossed about in the surf, overpowered by sweet malty molasses roastiness, and the fairly pronounced heat of the habanero that the style also promotes. Soy sauce also permeates. But there is a kind of off-center nexus that can be located in the frolicking tide, as nothing is really clashing here. Alcohol heat is expertly hidden, by the way.

The feel is a fair sight better than the appearance would suggest. Thick and syrupy, as is to be expected, but a twinge of carbonation does perform its duties admirably.

I agree with some of the other reviewers who claimed this beer would be better marketed as an imperial chili stout. Imperial chili stout with pumpkin, perhaps. It has the bones of a good chile stout. But maybe go full on Halloween with ghost chili, same heat level. The deep flavor of ghost chili might actually mingle better in this, and we can't really taste the flavor of the habanero anyway, just its diluted, moderate heat.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a short tan head that left a narrow collar around the edge of the glass and a latte-like design on the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of black licorice and chili peppers are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell but has additional flavors of soy sauce and hints of pumpkin spices. The chili pepper-like spiciness lingers into the finish.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has just about a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This tastes more like a chili pepper-infused Russian Imperial Stout than one that has pumpkins. In any event, both the chili peppers and pumpkin flavors are week and are outmatched by those of soy sauce.

Bottle poured into a snifter

A: Pours black with a mocha colored full, creamy, rich head, no retention, no lacing, looks under carbonated but thick and like motor oil.

A: Dark chocolate, espresso, roasted malts, black licorice, burnt pumpkin, and a touch of chile smoke in the finish, alcohol is well hidden.

T: The flavor is lacking the complexity and depth of the aroma, pretty straightforward, dark chocolate, espresso, soy sauce, roasted malts, light pumpkin sweetness then the chile spice kicks in the finish and lingers, alcohol is well hidden.

M: Completely flat, it's like drinking oil, thick, sticky but no carbonation at all, finish is very dry like espresso.

O: I was hoping for more from this but besides the aroma, it's not impressive, soy sauce is prevalent and the chile lingers way too long in the aftertaste.

Naparbier Sdad. Coop. Pumpkin Tzar, 11.6% ABV, 80 IBU. Pours black with a nice four finger brown head, that left no lacing. Nose is coffee and pumpkin squash, taste follows with moderate bitterness, licorice, and a bit of burn. Decent mouthfeel, overall very good. Wouldn't have detected pumpkin if the label hadn't hinted to look for it.
