Much better Saisons out there, but this one was fairly true to the style. Refreshing but weak in taste and aroma with little finish to remember it by.

Saint Feuillien Saison pours cloudy, orange amber with a 1.5” fluffy persistent head. Fruit to over ripe fruit, slight alcohol, and light biscuit aromas rise from the glass. The palate starts with a fruit blend of plum, apricot and berry over light biscuit, with a touch of sweetness that dries out as it moves over the tongue, drying slightly and becoming more peach like with a hint of citrus by the finish. There is a slight over ripe taste in the background. It has a medium body and a touch above medium on the carbonation. The carbonation is soft and fine giving the beer a pleasant creaminess.

Do not get anything that would reflect a "traditional" farmhouse ale.

Good Saison but lacking in the musty "barnyard/horse blanket" funk that I like so much. Poured from a corked bottle into a pint glass. The color is murky caramel like yellow. Fairly small bubbly white head with better than average retention and light lacing. Aroma is slightly sweet apple cider.

Flavor has the apple cider element but there is also some tartness with a little lemon and a bit of yeasty-funk (but not enough for me!). A bit of peppery type spicing is noticed in the taste.

Mouthfeel is rich enough for the style with little to no alcohol presence. Would be better with a little more funk.

Can pour - pours a beautiful golden hue with stark white lacing. Looks lively and vibrant from the get go. There is a definite pepper note here but the spice is restrained. Breadiness of the yeast comes through clearly. There is a lot to like here. This is a refreshing and very enjoyable farmhouse ale.

Found this in a 11.2 Oz can. Amazed to find a Saison in a can but it worked really well. Crisp and refreshing with a nice spice to it.

330ml bottle poured into a Troubadour tulip glass

Look:Slightly murky dark straw-yellow with a stupendous amount of white (not off-white, but white white!) head. Quite bubbly, with poor retention but quite a bit of lacing left behind. Some sediment left int the bottle. though.

Smell: You can tell it's Belgian from the smell of oranges - spices are notably absent, though. Quite yeasty, too - not entirely surprising given the stuff left behind in the bottle. Seems a bit one-dimensional, even when the beer has had time to breathe.

Taste: Reminds me a bit of a fruity hefeweiss - not that this is necessarily a bad thing but it certainly is different. Very malt/yeast-forward with the fruity flavours kicking in towards the end. Almost a wine-like finish - quite dry.

Feel: As others have noted, there's some fairly aggressive carbonation going on here - this isn't a beer you're going to chug unless you plan on belching national anthems afterwards. Get past that and it's slightly syrupy but not excessively so. Some alcohol notes, but nothing overpowering. Quite quaffable under the right circumstances.

Overall: Saisons and their ilk are still a relatively new thing for me, but I have to say I rather like this one - whether intentional or not it manages to combine the good elements of a traditional Belgian beer (whatever that may be) and a good old-fashioned hefeweiss. Interesting, and definitely worth another go.
