Serving date: 2009-02-21. Served in tulip.

Presentation: 750 ml corked bottle with freshness date on the label (best before 2010-01-18). Interesting to note that this one is brewed with vitamin C.

Appearance: When I opened it, the cork came out with a very big pop, which was a bit surprising. It was like opening a bottle of champagne. It pours a pale golden straw color, very clear and with plenty of bubbles from the carbonation. The head is very big, ivory-colored and quite lively. It settles after a while and leaves some lacings.

Smell: A rather prominent smell of medicinal phenols hits the nose together with some yeast. Mild aromas of sweet fruits - like ripe apple peel. Some tart fruitiness, kind of like rhubarb, as well. A gentle funky note and general spiciness.

Taste: Big and prominent medicinal flavors almost overpowers the palate. Very distinct flavors of band-aid, sterile hospital environment and rectified spirit (no alcohol, though). Although, this perhaps sounds somewhat repugnant, it's actually kind of pleasant - and definitely interesting. Some yeast. Plenty of sweet caramel malts and some restrained, yet present, flavors of fruit (lemon peel, pineapple) balance the sharp medicinal flavors. In the finish, which is slightly bitter and dry, there are some hop flavors, spices (cloves) and a dry band-aid flavor. The alcohol is in general well hidden, but becomes somewhat more prominent towards the end. All in all, a very pleasant taste with lots of flavors going on.

Mouthfeel: Medium body. High levels of carbonation, actually to high initially since the rather sharp bubbles takes away some of the flavors.

Drinkability: I really enjoyed this one, but perhaps a 750 ml bottle was a bit too much. It has a very "Belgian" profile - if that concept makes any sense - with lots of carbonation, characteristic yeast in the aroma and bold, interesting and at least somewhat balanced flavors. However, the phenolic character really takes the lead. I would highly recommend it to someone who has a hard time identifying what medicinal phenols actually taste like.

11.2 oz bottle. Golden and a bit cloudy, supports a puffy head and leaves alot of lace. yeast, spice, candi sugar in the nose. Taste is crisp, refreshing, fruity, yeasty, lemon, honey, butter, cloves, melon, crisp apples. This one is delicate and complex, heaven in a glass. I love everything about this stuff, from the very heavy, "Duvel" shaped bottle, to the smell, color, taste and finish of this noble Belgian creation. Check it out!

750 ml bottle...dark god and translucent with a swelling pale head of over 1/2 an inch in height. Laces in small dots but not that generously. Aroma is slightly fruity, unripe pears and some pineapple, suggestions of nutmeg. Mouthfeel is medium, carbonation is a bit lower than I expected. Flavor is quite yeasty and with lots of esters, more of the sweetened pinapple from the aroma shines through. Flattens toward the close with increasingly sweet tones. Pretty good, malt-leaning and bready, I wouldn't mind a little more dryness to the brew but there's nothing off-putting here.

Wonderful to sip. Light on the mouth with spicey lemon yeast. Lace that stays in the cup, many small bubbles from good carbonation. Really 7.5%? Malty and refreshing. Bit of dry bitter afterataste from hops. Floral yeasty aroma. A bottle is satisfying for two.

A hazy yellow-orange body is topped by a foamy bright white head that drops fairly quickly and detracts from the appearance. It does hold a decent collar and surface covering, however, and also leaves some lace. The aroma is sweetly malty, lightly spicy, fruity and yeasty. The body is medium with a very fine, moderate carbonation that leaves it quite creamy in the mouth. The flavor is surprisingly soft, starting with a honeyish malt that also has a woody/oak and vanilla character to it. Some very light spice rounds it out nicely, and a drying bitterness ushers in the finish. Very well balanced with a rich sweet malt and a decent amount of hops! Very nice and well recommended.

A: Slightly darker than an AAL, with a massive amount of rising carbonation. Barely poured the glass half foam.
S: High quality soap. Floral
T: Warm but subtle hops. Warm malt, apple, floral with a bit of tang. Grassy.
M: A bit drying with a light to medium body and a light but sharp sting.
O: Pretty good. Different for a blonde

When I poured it out, it refused to give a large head. A lot of big white bubbles. Disappeared quickly, thin lace remaining.
The odour is exotic. Fruity / sugary: malt, salted peanuts, citrus peels, pineapple, banana.
It has a misty orange-gold colour. A little carbonation is visible, as are small dots of yeast swimming around.
Drank this one out of a large tulip / chalice on a high foot. To let it give it’s full character.
Very full taste. Sweet and bready, pineapple and citrus (Witte like), dry malt and dark bread, rich yeast.
Sweet mushroom aftertaste, with peanut butter in the back
Nice job, not really special.

Ut Vivat, Crescat, Floreat!

Straw color with a thin white head. The St. Veil lien glass with the etched bottom kept the head on the beer. Classic Belgian beer aroma. A nice clean malt flavor with little to no bitterness. Well carbonated, plenty of carbonation as the beer rolls across the palate. A full bodied beer with a lingering malt finish.

This is a classic Belgian blonde beer that I would strongly recommend to first time Belgian beer drinkers.

Bottle: Poured a hazy blonde beer with a huge foamy white head with good retention. Aroma is quite floral with some nice mix of malt and hops. Taste is very refreshing with again notes of malts and hops and some sweet floral notes. Body is bit thicker then expected with a great balance between hops and yeast. ABV is well hidden which is great for blonde beer with 7.5% ABV.

A: Pours a hazy yellow with two fingers of white head that fades into a cap with great lacing.

S: Light spice notes up front with some sweet fruits. Light yeasty notes bring up the finish.

T: Spices notes up front with a lot of bready characters with some dry yeast notes as well. There are some slightly tart fruit notes as well.

M: Medium-light body with highish carbonation, this beer is is nice and dry.

O: An alright beer overall, though a bit bland and lacking depth. It has a nice body, but is just boring.

Poured into a St. Feuillien goblet. Pours a cloudy caramel amber with a nice three finger white head that slowly dissipated to a thick cap and tons of lacing. Aroma of bready malt, light, slightly sour fruit, coriander and citrus. Flavor of caramel malt, coriander, citrus, pear and apple juice, moderately dry. Finishes dry with peppery spice and light grasst hop bitterness. Light to medium bodied with excellent carbonation. A very nice Belgian pale with a pleasant flavor progression and balance. It is a nice semi-dry variation on typically sweeter Belgian pales. Classic.
