Another Belgian Blonde, why? Because Blondes have more fun! Today's St Feuillien hopefully won't have those askew characters noted in Brune and be a delightful dip into the world of Abbey ales, fingers crossed!

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a St Feuillien chalice.

A: The body presents a nice cloudy flaxen blonde (borders on straw) with a chalky 0.5cm head that invites the first sip.

S: Bubble-gum, tart apple characters are noted straight away. There is a slight sourdough yeast in the body, along with candi sugar and a hint of malt grains. It's quite pleasant with that overlay of fruit aromas drawing one in.

T: Straight out the gates with a bang goes this blonde - immediately assailing the taste buds with sharp citrus, spicy pepper and tart apples. The bold statement is backed up by a candi sugar, malt and yeast body and it finishes off with a twist of hop bitterness at the end. Alcohol is reasonably well hidden behind that candi sugar hit. Big flavours in a small glass, it may be too big for some.

M: Dense carbonation with a touch of aggression. The body is spot on mid-heavy for a Belgian blonde.

D: So far it's been an average at best dubbel brune and a real corker of a blonde, can't wait to try the triple now. As for the blonde, the bold flavour statement may be a little too crass and barnyardy, but if you're like me (and you know you are!) then it's just the beer ticket out of Mundanetown - population: a bunch of losers.

Food match: It's a bit of a dessert affair (which is anyone's game), but I could see it match with some more exotic fare like; roast pheasant with greens, potatoes and sauce. Or even more exotic; a Bison Tetrazzini, or some Aussie cuisine; Kangaroo Fillet with Cream Sauce, sounds good.

33cl Bottle: BBD 12th Aug 15, poured into a Duvel glass @ home on 5th Dec 13.

Almost clear golden colour with a good head, could almost have been a Duvel in the glass.

The aroma however told you it wasn't a Duvel: this had a grainy and mild citrus note in the smell, along with some yeast esters.

The taste was also a mixture of flavours, again grainy, citrusy and yeasty: crisp, sharp and leaning towards tart with a dry bitter finish.

Nice brew.

A: Pours slightly hazy pale golden with a tall, thick but still light and crisp, crystal white head. Dissipation is slow and leaves pretty nice lacings.

S: A bit sour, yeasty and spicey. Crisp malt and some strong citirc, hoppy notes. Some faint stable and leather. Somewhat sweet.

T: Sour yeastyness, peppery spiceyness and white bread. Lemonjuice and lemonsezt.

M: Aftertase is both sour and bitter, rather long. Body is medium to full, while carbonation is quite strong but still rather well balanced.

O: An interesting Belgian ale with nice sour notes from yeast.
