P: 750 cc cork bottle

A: Gorgeous ruby red color, sticky, thick rocky head, 2 fingers easily

S: Really nice, bread, yeast, malt, candied fruit and brown sugar

T: Sugars and fruit hit first, some ripe banana, a trace of mint in the aftertase, almost like Northern Brewer hops

M: Well balanced, not too thin, not too thick

D: Pretty drinkable given the alcohol, I don't pick it up much in the aftertaste.

Notes: A really nice Belgian Dark Strong, this might make the "have one every Christmas" list

750 ml bottle into signature chalice; 9/2007 date on the cork. Pours very hazy dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of raisin, prune, fig, caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, molasses, clove, light chocolate, herbal, and toast/yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester flavors; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, prune, fig, caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, molasses, light chocolate, clove, herbal, floral, and toast/yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of raisin, prune, fig, caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, molasses, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and big robustness of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; with a great malt/yeast ester flavor balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth and moderately creamy/slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian strong dark ale. All around great balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Surprisingly pale cherry amber with egg challah-yellow foam head that rims like mad.
Baked apple, spice, petrol, and ginger cake nose - deep.
Fruitcake malts, some poached pear esters, mild yeast spice, and grassy hops to end.
Cola finish and cherry stone linger.
Medium, round, smooth, chewy.

Shows lighter than expected, but nothing missing as far as flavor. Solid all arounder. No burn, yeast is under-, fruit and cake both - can't fault is as last beer of Christmas night.

Beautiful amber color; luscious head.
Slightly alcholic on the nose. Pleasant mouthfeel.

Overall, a very good beer but nothing that stands out and says "pick me!".

I'm going to put a bottle down and try it next year, then I'll re-review.

Aroma: Phenolic, spicy aroma.
Appearance: Amber color, head is huge.
Flavor: Sweet. Spicy flavor is dominant. Sweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body and alcoholic character. A little bit hot.
Overall: Sweet spicy Belgian ale. Too sweetness destroys total balance.

Serving glass: Poured from tap into Tulip.

Appearance: Very cloudy orangish-brown with not too much head (but it was from tap and I didn't see the pour).

Smell: Hard to pinpoint, but I am getting traces of overripe fruits, raisins, butterscotch, fruitcake and spices.

Taste: Like the aroma, this is a wide mix of notes that mostly work well together but make it hard to describe. Plum, raisin, butterscotch, fruitcake, coconut and licorice all seem to be in there. The finish is lightly spicy and even a little cognac like.

Feel: Medium to full body that is smooth and chewy. Carbonation is lower than it would be if from the bottle.

Overall: This really does have a Christmas vibe going on. I like it.

Best before 9/30/13.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Chunks of sediment are seen floating around in the beer after the pour. Smell is of malt, dark fruit, brown sugar, and spice aromas. There is also a slight soy sauce aroma that comes out as the beer warms up but it's not really a negative thing. Taste is much the same with dark fruit and slight spice flavors on the finish. There is a very mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice dark fruit presence in the aroma and flavor.
