St. Feuillien Brune explodes out of the 11.2 oz. bottle and has a thick, rocky, cream-colored head, a murky, bubbly, lighter-brown appearance, and a little bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, brown bread crust, light brown sugar, grain, and a touch of alcohol. Taste is of those elements with a grain husk aspect as well. Mouthfeel is medium and prickly, and St. Feuillien Brune finishes rich, sweet, and interesting.

25.4 oz. bomber poured into chalice
(9/11/13 born-on date)
L: classic dubble everything with a brown murky opaque liquid but very little head, barely enough of a head of caramel/tan to cover the surface of the brew; orange highlights up to the light, a hint of amber MAYBE -- much more orange; no stick or lace
S: fruity, figgy, WINE ... man, that first whiff smells like a red wine to me; loads of grapes, grape skins, fermented grapes; later on there might be some light malt sweetness (bread; sweet bread)
T: follows the nose at first then becomes a good solid steady stream of sweet fig, sweet fruit and a lot of yeast
F: fine. not overly carbonated but still very drinkable -- and a load more carbonation is in the column than what's showing in the weak head
O: while it's not the greatest dubbel in the land, this brew is more than giving me what I'd ask of a dubbel ... lots of sweet fruitiness, plenty of yeast, a perfectly hidden ABV over 7% and and all-around solid mouthfeel. at $11.04 for this 750 ML bottle, I feel like I got my money's worth, and it's good enough to have me curious about other St. Feuillien offerings.

On-tap 9/20/2013 at Julian’s in Providence, RI, served in an over-sized wine glass.
A: The beer is a bright reddish brown color, with a short beige head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is faint but contains caramelized malts, Belgian yeast, fruit and spices.
T: The taste starts out very sweet with flavors of brown sugar, dark fruits, spices and caramel. Then some breadiness comes in from Belgian yeast and a hearty malt character. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, slightly filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a decent beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.
