8/1/14 On tap at Ratle n Hum. Caramel jumps out of the glass onto on the lips & into the nose. But it stabilizs quickly. It ends up with a touch of bitterness but not of a hoppy nature. More of a coffee type. Cosmetically there's nothing to write home about but it's worth a pint to see.

12/21/13 From Bottle. This is more like it. First taste was the sweetness, a nicely done sweetness. Then a raisiny flavor that finishes more like a caramel. All very subtly embodied in a smooth medium mouth feel. This 8.5% ABV beauty is very seductive. Go lightly my friends.

A: opaque dark brown
S: sweet citrus dark malt; clove; touch of licorice;
T: intense salted licorice with dark fruit cake side notes; alcohol (8.5%) is noticeable in the finish but not at all overpowering; the flavour is quite direct and intense.
M: not full bodied or fat at all considering the alcohol
O: fine but not particularly memorable

Pour is reddish brown with a tight, small bubbled tan head. Nose has a fair bit of dark malt, caramel is strong, light licorice, hints of apple and fruity esters. Taste is much of the same, light bitterness and herbal hop in the finish. Licorice mid palate, decent bit of richer malt up front, mostly caramel malts. Strong carbonation, lighter body.

This isn't the best of this style I've had by far. It wasn't bad by any means, just nothing special.
Pours almost like a soda with quick foaming head that recedes very quickly into nothing after a minute or so.

Smell is sweet with some cinnamon and spice to it. The taste is sweet as well but is really dumbed down by the amount of carbonation it has. Very fizzy in the mouth. Not a bad beer to try, but would probably only get it again if the beer store was out of my usual's.

St. Feuillien Brune explodes out of the 11.2 oz. bottle and has a thick, rocky, cream-colored head, a murky, bubbly, lighter-brown appearance, and a little bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, brown bread crust, light brown sugar, grain, and a touch of alcohol. Taste is of those elements with a grain husk aspect as well. Mouthfeel is medium and prickly, and St. Feuillien Brune finishes rich, sweet, and interesting.
