Poured from a 750 ml bottle (batch 1) into an ommegang tulip pint glass. Slightly hazy and straw-colored with a nice white head, leaving lacing down the glass. Small streams of bubbles make their way to the surface.

Smell - Brettalicous. Earthy, barnyard, but with a nice earthy spicyness behind it.

Taste - The brett is obvious immediately. Very solid earthy barnyardy flavor, but a lot of spicy and earthy hops to back it up. The hop flavors blossom towards the finish, rounding it out and keeping it from being a one-dimensional brett beer. Not much coming from the malt aside from a modicum of sweetness to keep it in balance. Lingering earthy bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Medium-light body and fairly effervescent, though not as spritzy as I expect from the style.

Overall - Love this one. Unlike most brett beers, there's enough earthy spicy complexity from the hops to balance and play off the brett flavors. Great complexity here for such a young beer (and the bottle says to enjoy young!) I expect aging would subdue to the hops and lead the brett to overpower anything else. I've been very impressed by Enlightenment Ales in general--unique beers that are balanced and drinkable.

Bottle from Tavern in Framingham for the Jack's Abby Boston Marathon charity event.

Light fizzy head, super hazy tangerine orange color.

Nose is very nice, floral fruity Belgian esters and fruity slightly tropical citrus fruity hops, light grassy and grainy Belgian saison like aromas, slight vegetable aromas, little green apple skin, light Belgian malts, light farmhouse funk.

Taste is delicious, lots of farmhouse funk but not quite Brett like, lots of saison funk, light grainy bready malts toasty pilsner like, grassy, wet hay, doughy, light spices, chewy, some grassy spicy hops. Finish is fairly dry, lots of earthy spicy grassy hops, more saison farmhouse funk, light bitterness, little sticky despite dry, light fruit.

Mouth is med bodied, nice carb.

Overall very nice. Embodies just about everything I really want in a nice saison, lots of farmhouse funk, good ester profile, effervescent carbonation, grassy, chewy, great character, even a hint of nice tropical fruits on the nose. Very tasty, I will probably still get more just to drink it again!
