Our IPA brewed with Northwest American hops prominently featuring Chinook! A pungent aroma gives way to a delicate beer loaded with hop flavor. Soft notes of grapefruit, pine, pineapple, and young mango give way to a dry finish making this one hard to put down. We find Sap to be one of our most complex and intricate IPAs - We love it dearly!

From a can dated 02/26/24. From the label: “Sap is a deceptively soft beer brimming with distinctive notes of grapefruit, mango, pine and earthy spice. With waves of diverse flavor, it is perhaps our most complex IPA.” Both Chinook and Simcoe hops are used. This iteration to be was less soft and more sharp in aroma and flavor. Nonetheless, it is complex and enjoyable.

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
Palest orange body, with hinting lemon yellow and brown hues. Classic off white frothing and creamy formed head, stretching easily four fingers in height. Pill and sheet lacing with lots of retention and staying power.
Real interesting aroma. Earthy sweetness, a mix of pine, grapefruit and hinting tropical exotic quality. Sweet taffy candy like sensation mixes in as well for some real unique flavors. Excellent nose.
Palate is real impressive. Sweet touches of light faint caramel, and a giant hop mix of sweet, bitter, and candy light flavors. Fruit hits of citrus and cantalopue mixing with pine herbality with excellent sweet tones. Candy melted like soft sugars, not horribly sweet either which makes it even more impressive, and a sense of honey while drinking. Finishes with oily bitterness in green hop and citrus zest to cap off a great flavor performance.
Very well done put together brew here.

Very well made. I wasn't sure what to expect from a NEIPA that features Chinook and Simcoe hops, but this offering is quite good. My prior experience with Chinook has been primarily as a bittering hop. I am impressed and surprised. I still like the fruity juice bomb type IPAs and pale ales out there, and there is definitely a place for this type of beer too when you have time to savor the nuances and depth of flavors and aromas.

Wasn't sure this one would be something I'd love. Turns out it's fantastic. Typical TH fruity smoothness up front, but an assertive and well-rounded bitterness (relative to the style) comes through and gives a little throat punch that's welcome.

From a three-week-old can stamped SAP IS BACK, beer pours a beautiful hazy glowing orange. One inch of dense white foam leaves lots of lacing. Smell is initially a massive hit of grapefruit, which transitions to more subtle tropical fruits and earthy herbs. Killer beer.

Pours an opaque straw color with almost a finger of head. The nose has both citrus and dank notes. The citrus is also prominent in the flavor profile and it is accompanied by piney notes. This offering is nicely resiny with an above average bitterness.

Tree House certainly does world-class New England IPAs, but Sap strikes an unusually beautiful balance that isn't quite so down the center line of the style. Its key note isn't fruit so much as it is a really savory kind of bitter. There's the expected pine, but it's complex, in a way that makes you want to roll it around a while to see what else will emerge. Hint of cannabis here. Pair that with the soft creaminess of TH IPAs and that inevitable somewhat citrus-y base, and this one is really something special. I find myself ordering this one every time it shows up, because it's more than a variation on a theme. A rewarding voyage.

From a 16oz can dated 11/14/22 into a tulip. Can message: "Sap is back"
Pours an essentially opaque brownish orange with about one finger of white head. Pretty good retention. Great lacing.
Very earthy smell. Pine, dirt, resin, light citrus, hint of marijuana.
Taste...is this a Tree House IPA? Haha. Piney bitterness, earth and light citrus juice. Essentially like the nose.
Here's a catch. Smell and taste would have me thinking sticky mouthfeel. This is soft. Medium-bodied. Bitter, citrus rind aftertaste. Low carbonation.
West coast meets New England. Very nice beer.

A-Thick white fluffy head atop a hazy yellow brew
S-Layered aromas of tropical fruit with a hint of cream. Pine forward with a good dose of honey and light caramel
M-Juicy mouthfeel with a full body and low end carbonation
T-Sweel fruit upfront with a level of candied fruit and a contrast of resinous pine.
O-outstanding beer!

I waited until having my third can before rating this. Because...I really don't get it. This is by FAR my least favorite TH IPA ever, not even close. It must be a bad batch or something. There is a weird stale cardboard taste that completely ruins the rest of the flavor profile (pine? citrus?). I'll try to remember to update this if I ever have another chance to try this.

Tree House Brewing Co. "Sap"
16 fl. oz. can coded "SAP IN APRIL WHAT?? 04/26/22 05:22:00" and sampled on 05/18/22

Notes via stream of consciousness: Sap? Yep, it's Chinook and Simcoe! You can't go with just Chinook, it'd be too piney. It's poured a very hazy golden orange body benath an inch or so of off-white foam. The aroma is not as pronounced as I thought it would be but it still contains the pine and citrus that I thought it would. The taste is similar, which is a good thing as too much pine can be very drying and sometimes cuts back pretty harshly on the drinkability. This is pleasantly balanced between pine and citrus over a lightly sweetish and bready malt base. I'm finding orange, grapefruit, passionfruit, and some berry as well as soft pine and earth. It's moderately bitter, which really helps with piney beers, and yet it's also dry in the finish with delicate pine and light earth lingering. in the mouth it's medium in body and gently crisp. Unlike a lot of other Treehouse beers this has only a limited amount of acidic "hop bite" and I assume that it's either not dry-hopped or only lightly dry-hopped. The head has held up well, as is usual for Treehouse beers, and the lacing is great. I was expecting more from this, but at the same time I was also expecting it to be a bit too much and that's not the case at all. This is very well balanced and rounded, and highly drinkable.
