Filled a few hours ago at the brewery. The beer fill level is so high, when I pop the top beer splatters out a bit, delicious smelling beer.
Pours a big creamy fluffy 1.5 finger pillowy head that fades at a med pace with big bubbles popping, and soapy lacing everywhere. The beer is a murky carrot honey orange colored beer.
Nose brings loads of fresh hops, some resinous hops, it really pops as the tropical fruit wafts out, lots of passion fruit, mango, citrus, tangerine, grapefruit pith, orange-mango juice puree, very faint pine with the resins, very juicy and a bit of a generic tropical fruit juice aroma, quite aromatic with a nice pop to it even. I barely get any malt but there is a touch.
Taste is pure grapefruit right off, like drinking ruby red grapefruit juice, grapefruit pith and bit of peel with a nice bitterness coming through. More tropical fruits, passion fruit, a bit of papaya like, little mango and melon rind, very juicy almost like biting into fresh tropical fruit generic again. Fairly resinous but not overpowering, a little musty and plenty of dank musty hops with oils even, almost hop extract level of bitter hop oils and resins the later it goes. The bitterness ramps and gets quite bitter, borderline astringent by the finish. The malts bring light sweetness that attempt to balance but have a hard time keeping up, with a light fluffy feel even. The grapefruit pith flavor really starts to go crazy towards the end. Finish is dry and quite bitter, borderline astringent with more hop oils, resins, dank musty and lots of grapefruit pith lingering, with a bit of stickiness.
Mouth is med bodied but a soft feel, decent carb that brings a nice pop on the tongue.
Overall quite good, great hop flavors with the tropical fruits, grapefruit, citrus, pith, etc, the dank resins get a little too much as they bring so much pith and borderline astringent kinda feel, but so much juicy tropical fruit I can't blame it too much, and malts have a hard time keeping up. While this is a great beer, it doesn't quite live up to Julius, I think I'm spoiled by it, it doesn't have the hop balance. Although this is quite drinkable and tasty.
