I had this beer a few months ago visiting my Dad in N.C.

This was a really good beer. I am looking foward to going to back to the brewpub strictly for this beer. This beer is the best I myself have ever had in a brewpub. Has a thick foamy head. Medium dark mocha color. It tastes great, goes down smooth, and is served in the approriate glass. Definately reccomend this beer. (378 characters)

Sampled at the WBF in Durham last week and had to stop by the brewery to have some more. Served in an 8oz snifter glass - classy. Pours a deep, dark black that light enters and never returns, topped by a beautiful, creamy, coffee-colored head that hangs around for quite a while. Aroma of rich roasted malt, with a hint of espresso and dark chocolate. Palate is rather amazing, almost like a mocha drink. Roasted malt, espresso, mocha, dark chocolate, and a hint of dark fruit meld into a delicious combination. The thick but not overwhelming body yields a smooth, velvety texture in the mouth. A slow drinking treat, to be sure. If this is what Carolina Brewery is going to produce after the cap has been popped, I will likely become a much more frequent customer. (765 characters)

On tap at the brewery.

Very dark brown in color with a lasting one-finger tan head and good lacing.

Roasty aroma with anise and molasses along with some coffee.

The flavor is decent but not as full and tasty as I expect from this style. Coffee roastiness with anise and molasses and a hint of dark chocolate.

Medium-bodied and on the drier side with carbonation below average.

Overall decent but not great for the style. (425 characters)

12oz bottle acquired in trade with OldStyleCubFan (thanks!). Bottled on 01/30/08.

Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, coffee, and slightly earthy. Tastes of bitter chocolate, roast, and coffee. This one was roasty all the way around. Alcohol content well hidden.

Bottle from alexsdad06 in trade. Thanks!

Pours a light black color with a relatively short lived light tan head. Smell is some semi sweet, dark, and lightly tart chocolate with maybe a touch of soy sauce and dark fruitiness. Taste is semi bitter dark chocolate like malt with some light soy sauce. Light Body is slightly thick, but about average for the style and has about average carbonation for an imperial stout. Overall, pretty enjoyable and alcohol is not noticeable. (474 characters)

As far as I know, this beer was introduced last night, and I had it on tap at Carolina Brewery in Chapel Hill this evening. The waitress said it was 7.5% abv, so that's what I'm going with. I love Pop the Cap!
Anyway, served in smaller brandy snifters at $3.25ea. The beer was nearly pitch black, some dark maroon hints when held in the light. A second serving had a 1/4 in. brown head of light foam. It left very quickly and almost none stayed with the beer, no lace.
Smells of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and alcohol prevail.
Tasted much the same as it smelled, but a wonderful flavor was released. There was a low to moderate hop presence in the middle and back of the mouth.
This beer is smooth and creamy, but strong. Not for the faint of heart.
A solid Imperial Stout, and I had 2 tonight before I had to leave to catch a show at Cat's Cradle. Could have had another one.

Sampled on tap at the brewery.

Not very big for an Imperial Stout but balanced and flavorful. It's got a nice thick consistency but could be a bit bolder. But I guess it's just right for their crowd.

A good, enjoyable Imperial Stout for the masses. (250 characters)

Dark black beer with a thin ring of tan/tawny bubbles forming a ring. Little lacing. Has a nutty smell and taste. The taste is a little sweeter than the smell...a little like sour fruit. A delcious flavor. The beer is typical in mouthfeel-medium to full bodied and no real trace of the alcohol in flavor or mouthfeel. Great sipping beer.

Enjoyed on-tap at the brewpub with my lunch on Sunday, October 1. Reviewed from notes.

Poured a black coffee with a similar looking consistency. Slight tan head that ringed the glass. Nose was very mild and was simply burnt toast. Not a whole lot going on for the nasal senses.

Flavor was a bit more complex. Lots of toasted and burnt malts at first--burnt biscuits. But as the beer warmed more dark cherries began to come out. Just some slight heat from the alcohol. Also, just a slight sourness but not enough to cause any puckering. Medium body and the feel wasn't watery but there was a thin quality to the beer. Nice selection. (638 characters)
