On tap. Black pour with a nice dark tan head. Very good coffee aroma, roast malt, chocolate. Sticks to the sides ok. Taste is an excellent balance of the coffee chocolate and roast malt. Some piney hops in the finish with old coffee. Nice clean, an excellent stout especially if you dig the coffee stouts. Not a real heavy body, will be drinkable, if it's your cup of tea. Would recommend.

64oz growler poured into a Duvel snifter a nice opaque black with just a hint of ruby highlights and a thin diminishing head. The aroma is a nice amount of freshly brewed coffee blending nicely with roasted malts. The taste was a little heavy on the coffee, with a bit of bitterness, almost like coffee that's been sitting in the mug a bit too long. The beer is medium bodied with decent carbonation. This one was worth trying, but not likely one I'd try again.

At the brewery.

Pour is very deep brown, with black hues. Thin to no head, but all of their beers are guilty of that.

Smell is laden with coffee. It was almost like a cup of coffee, but then the dark chocolate comes in later, almost to make an attempt at balancing things out.

The taste is very bold, more bold than I have had from Carolina Brewery. Coffee aroma up front, but dark powdered chocolate takes over. Light body for the style, but still tastes fantastic. Has more chocolate than FBS, and more balance than Wake n Bake.

Made with locally roasted coffee beans (Counter Culture in Durham), Carolina's coffee stout pours a stouty dark brown with a nice, one-finger tan head. Smells of dark-roasted malts and coffee dominate the nose, while coffee and cocoa weigh heavy on the tongue. Great flavor, with the dark coffee characters taking the lead and allowing the other tastes to sneak through. Nice cocoa aspect, as well. This is light-bodied as far as stouts go, which makes it very drinkable. Worth a try!
