Fürstentrunk was first brewed in the early 1950s by Fritz Sailer and his brewmaster Heinrich Steiner. After all the thin beers during wartime, one could finally afford a good strong beer again – noble, strong, light.

In the 1960s it was known as “Heimgehbier” – the last beer before going home.

This festive beer matures for three to four months in our dark, cool cellars. The Fürstentrunk embodies our historic founding mission by Elector Maximilian I like no other beer – and with a little imagination, the velvety taste is reminiscent of the prince’s soft robes.

Our light festival beer. Strong taste with full hop aroma, light sunny malt tones and higher original wort. An insider tip among beer connoisseurs.

Original wort content 13.2°

Compared to their Helles this is much drier and more hoppy. The hops are the typical noble hops you would expect but there is a hopy bite to it that reminds you more of a Pilsener. However this little extra of Alkohol and a bit more body makes this an Export in my opinion. Nicely executed and very tasty.

Served in late September, 2019 -- it must have become unretired.

Light gold color; crystal clear with a steady stream of upward bubbles. This creates a lasting, but thin, head. Nice rings for lace.

Very grainy smell with a lot of creamed corn.

The taste is a marked improvement with less graininess and far less corn. The body is surprisingly rich given that I was expecting a beer closet to an American adjunct. Light carbonation enhances the effect. The flavor is mostly pale malted barley with just a touch of hop bitterness in the swallow.

Had this on n 2018-05-31 in Philly at Braushaus Schmitz on tap.

Traditional Helles and very well done. Has the Pils malt and white grape flavor. Balancing bitterness too. Very nice.

On tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a pale and clear yellow, with a small head, and lots of lacing. This is probably the lightest version of the style I've ever seen.

This smells kind of like a helles really, with crisp grassy hops on the nose, and crackery malt.

This definitely feels a bit like a hoppy helles, which is ok, but it's surprising. It's got a crisp biting hop flavor to it- grassy and a bit lemony, with a snappy malt character- biscuity, but not as rich as I'd expect for the style.

This is crisp and clean, and pretty light bodied, with a good level of carbonation.

This is a surprising rendition of the style. No matter how it fits into the style guidelines, it's tasty, and that's really all that matters to me.
