From the can

A. Very dark brown color. Thick frothy slightly amber head. Fine bubble film. And the can is cool.

S. Dark malts, a tad bit of bourbon, straw, and domestic yeast.

T. Dark malts, calm bourbon, bourbon soaked oak, slight hoppy bitterness, and domestic yeast.

M. Very smooth, high carbonation, medium body.

O. A dang fine ba brown ale. Not too heavy or sweet. Very smooth. One could certainly drink several of these.

A big bold barrel aged brown ale with a bit of a kick at 9%, all of this and it drink very smooth. Thick toasted bread character meet the toasty wood, mild chocolate malt goes well with the warming alcohol. An all around great job!!

This poured a dull matte black despite the claims its a brown ale. The head was thick and creamy with an intense foam that had thick lacing and good retention.

Chocolate, brownie, caramel, coconut and light bourbon meet the nose but the aroma is light. The coconut begins to stand out with a sweet vanilla trailer.

The flavor is light with coffee, malty Graham cracker, dry chocolate, brownie batter, coconut and vanilla. It ends with a light bourbonesque quality that imparts some barrel and alcohol.

The feel is maybe more carbonated than I prefer. It's a little dry with some easy sweetness.

Much better than last year's Country Western this was a nice barrel aged beer that had an array of flavors and a good barrel profile.

In the second installment of the "Country Western" series, the native central Kentucky breweries of West Sixth and Country Boy paint upon a palate of bourbon and brown. Its chocolaty ale flavors link up with heightened alcohol and oak influences for a deep and complex malty ale.

Volume Two kicks off with rich malt flavor that slathers upon the early palate with candied caramel, toffee, sorghum and a sprinkle of brown sugar and honey. As wood sugars play out on the nose and palate, they also contribute the spiciness of fresh oak, cashew and peanut brittle. Its soft maltiness excites the sweet tooth with ease.

Building upon its sweetness with even more sweetness, a sliver of woodsy hops give a broad and piney bitterness that folds in upon the middle. Growing in its elegant wood and nutty taste, the alcohol spices up the taste and complements the malt with its own coconut, char and vanilla.

Closing with bourbon-esque flavor, the maple dripping malt taste is slow to dissolve and makes the ale a heckuva sipper. Just shy of cloying, its warm finish mirrors its hazy brown sheen with excellence. Even as its delicate coffee-like creme floats the ale, its creamy texture balances the alcohol with ease.

This brotherhood of a beer is an accurate reflection of the tight-knit beer community in the bluegrass and highlights the natural flavors of the region.
