I love the hazy contrast of this pale ale as it sets it apart from so many in the genre. Hazy yellow to gold the head was light fluffy and and well balanced.

Sweet yet sour the aroma was of mostly grain and malt. Tinges of hops were buried inside I found the scent to be weak and hinting more towards sour malt.

Huge expectations were followed by slight disappointment as the taste was relatively uneventful. Sour grains with a back end of hoppy pine the taste was nice but simply not fulfilling. Slightly above average Pale Ale with a very smooth feel.

Overall, I'm thrilled by the collaborative effort and hope there's more to come...just hope there's more character in the next installment.

Brewed in conjunction with Lexington Craft Beer Week, the town's most recent brewers combine talents to offer up this easy drinking, well balanced, yet characterful ale that captures what's best about both breweries.

Country Western starts with a bronze-ish copper hue and carries the classic hazy look of dry-hopped ale. As the beer settles into the glass, it releases a creamy and frothy ivory foam stance that retains the majority of the session and laces the class with a collar at each sip. With the haze being an unexpected benefit, the Pale Ale certainly looks the part.

Balanced aromas never favor either the malt or hop components, rather keeping them both moderate and even-keel. Malt contributions of caramel, pecan, light toast, and freshly kilned grain set the sweeter tone. Offset by herbal and citrusy hops, the nose is rounded out with the medium-intense scent of grapefruit, honeysuckle, and tea leaves.

Early on the palate, the malty-sweet impressions bring all that light caramel, grain, and nutty taste to the foreground. But the middle palate sees a lightened malt taste and a rise of grapefruit, pine needles, fresh-cut grass, and a spicy herbal balance. Finishing with a modest turn to smooth bittering, the grassy and citrus peel character takes hold and provides great refreshment, crispness, and delight.

Medium bodied to start, the early malt structures and embedded carbonation slowly recede and allows for a crisper, lighter, and grain texture to govern its finish. Surprisingly herbal and floral in its closure, the beer is slightly warmed and malty-dry with a lingering grassy bitterness.

Where the ale captures the proportions and strength that make American Pale Ales so approachable, it invites more vegetal, herbal, and floral hops that give the beer a special kick- setting it apart from the week-long Craft Beer Week.
