12 oz bottle

A: Dark, thin head that doesn't stick around too long.

S: Huge coffee notes. Roasted malt. Chocolate. Very nice.

T: As a coffee lover, this is fantastic.

M: Thin, low ABV. Moderate carbonation. Works well.

O: This is a great beer that I hope they make year-round. $6.99/4 pack isn't too bad either.

From a 650 ml bottle (dated December 24, 2013) into a snifter.

A-An aggressive pour builds up a head of about one and one-half fingers. The foam is mocha in color and it drops quickly to a thick cap, then a patchy cap within a minute. Spots of lace are left behind on the glass. The beer is pretty close to black in color and still.

S-There is definitely some drip coffee aroma here, as well as semi-sweet baker's chocolate, and a bit of dark, sweet berry fruit. There is a little bit of sweetness, but as you would expect for a beer with only 4.4% ABV, it lacks that high-octane, boozy punch that the more ubiquitous RIS/double coffee stouts have.

T-The taste mostly follows the smell with drip coffee, some vaguely sweet blueberry fruit, a baker's chocolate bitterness, and some toast and oats. It is not complex when compared against the best examples of the style, but there are no off flavors, either.

M-The feel is light to medium in heft with a below average carbonation. A bit of a watery feel on the finish.

O-This is a pretty enjoyable beer with a nice dose of coffee flavor. It is not terribly complex and I could use a bit more body and/or mouthfeel, but there are not many stouts that drink this well at 4.4%, let alone coffee stouts that drink this well at 4.4%. I hate to use the term "session" for a coffee stout, but if you need to drink more than one coffee stout on a Tuesday night and go to work on Wednesday morning, this is a good option.

An inky, almost gritty looking black beer, with a pretty espresso-colored head, nice looker. Fantastic smells, tons of coffee and roast goodness. Serious coffee here, good stuff. On the palette is more gourmet coffee, dark baker chocolate, roasted grains, very little sweetness, subtle hops prescense. Lingering coffee dryness and touch of noble hops. Very, very good. The rare beer that seems suitedfor breakfast, body is medium full, and the carbonation is active, low ABV too boot.

A gem in the heart of Colorado. Awesome beer.
