a lighter color west coast ipa with a prominent but temporary white foam head. the nose is a bomb, major high alpha here, sticky and dank as hell, but with a lighter malt body to really let the hops stand out. the alcohol is there in the taste, but it seems to work well with the intensely bitter hops. there is a cut grass summery freshness to it that's really appealing here as the weather warms. long long finish challenging the tongue. its sticky in feel, but absolutely pint worthy. mellow carbonation is just fine because the body is super light for the style. there is very little weight to this, nothing to bog it down. possibly a good double ipa for the newcomer to the style, its a little bit more approachable than a lot of these, but with all the flavors you expect. one of my favorites from backcountry, too bad they didn't have any bottled up to go. a fine offering this spring.

Fix Your Heel 2IPA is some biking term I'm not familiar with. Who bikes anyway in Colorado? Jeez....

Hops include summit, falconer's flight and citra and all are well balanced with the malt and carbonation. To me, this is a good example (along with some Crooked Stave beers) of what a hoppy beer can be without being a bitter-bomb. Aroma and flavors are hop forward, with little wiggle room for the malt. But that's the point. If this were balanced I'd say it's an IPA...that's just me.

While some 2IPAs are resiny, or perhaps a bit like Pin Sol, the flavor here is focused on the tropical and maybe some orange zest. That's what I get. While it may taste light with all the citrus and tropics, it certainly is not. Half way through I can tell it was a sipper.
Very nice play on the hops, light caramel and biscuit underneath. Finishes dry, some bitter, but good flavor from the hops. Like orange marmalade-eque on the after-finish.

Darn good

22oz bottle $8.49. Orange color, great head. Lots of lacing. Aromas if tropical fruit, pine, lots of hops here. Flavor is more of the same, loads of tropical fruit and pine, some melon too. This wasn't a west coast per se but it might be, maybe. This was good enough that I went back for a second bottle.

Wow, this beer is great. It pours an amber gold with a medium head. The nose is tropical and grapefruit. The abv is not easily noticed and the smoothness is perfect. A definite favorite of mine from Backcountry.

From a 355 ml bottle (dated February 17, 2015) into a tulip.

A-The beer is clear and orange-ish golden with a decent bubble show going on. The head never reaches more than a half-finger of off-white foam. Retention is good, though, and the sticky foam leaves serious lacing.

S-The aroma is tropical and very hoppy...there is a just a little bit of balancing caramel and honey sweetness from the malt. It is not terribly bitter. Rather, I smell lots of tropical fruit like mango, melon, orange, and a bit of lime.

T-The taste is more balanced. Hops are still very prevalent and very tropical but the caramel and honey malt flavors are a little stronger on the palate. Flavors include mango, orange, some pineapple, and a zesty medium hop bitterness.

M-The carbonation is pretty smooth, verging on creamy. The beer is medium to full in heft with a sticky finish.

O-This is a pretty tasty beer, especially if you like your IIPAs tropical. The smell would lead you think that this is a complete hop bomb, but the taste does provide a little balance. Something about the feel did not quite live up the flavor for me, but my issue is minor and I would happily drink more of this.

This beer smells exactly as I would want a double IPA to smell. Sweet, flowery hops with lots of grapefruit. Like a dream. Color is a beautiful medium amber with an almost white head. On the pour, the bubbles filled the glass but quickly fell, leaving only a small layer persisting to the last drop. The mouthfeel leaves something to be desired which takes away from the overall flavor. Flavors of malt hit at first for a fleeting moment and then the hops kick in. A very nice balance with smooth hop flavor; not bitter at all. Then the ale finishes with lemon, almost a harsh lemon, like a lemon peel, but not quite. Carbonation is where it should be, but the drop in the body during the main event is disappointing. Overall a great beer, and maybe it was just this batch or my mood, but it needed a small something to take it to the next level.

Served in a 10 oz snifter on tap at the brewhouse.
Appearance: slight chill haze, nice orange Amber color with a one finger dense head, great retention and lacing.
Smell: huge tropical fruit aroma, just a slight biscuity malt smell also.
Taste: pretty much identical to the aroma, with lots of mango, pineapple and a slight grapefruit taste, just the right amount of malty sweetness too, very well balanced beer.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied, very creamy, nice carbonation, just wanted to keep sipping this all night.
Overall: what an outstanding beer! One of the top Colorado or from anywhere DIPAs. Glad I was finally able to try this one. I spend a few nights in Frisco every ski season, this will be the go-to spot from now on!

On tap at the brewery served in sniffer glass the beer arrives crystal clear with an amber orange hue and a nice 1.5 white head, excellent retention and great lacing. The nose is powerful with the Citra hops providing a nice tropical fruit character, citrus, light pale malt. Smells great. The flavor follows suit, very fruity and tropical yet not overly done, well balanced and crisp. The malty sweetness balances the medium bitterness well. Finishes with a lingering passion fruit flavor. Higher end if medium bodied and well carbonated. Overall this is really good, would live to see it packaged. Highly recommended!

Brewed 12/31/15. Tastes and smells like it's lost it's hoppiness. Sharp alcohol, heat on breath, none of the fruity hop flavors boasted on the side of the bottle. A bit disappointed.

Poured from a bottle at about 42F. Very little head, nice dark, coppery color. The taste is right up my alley - smooth and hoppy with a back of the mouth taste that's yeasty and lingering. I really like this beer!

I like the sticky feel and the smoothness of the bitterness. A perfect blend for me. Lots of levels here. The taste lingers and lasts as long as you want . Definitely a sipper

Such a delicious beer. Huge fruity punch throughout. Unlike a lot of IPAs these days, this beer is all about the flavor and not the bitterness. Medium body. Very little lingering bitterness. Bottom line, if you have the good fortune of being in an area where this beer is available, get yourself one.
