Houston is a BIG city. And we think it deserves a BIG beer. Most people are familiar with India Pale Ales and West Coast IPAs, but now it's our turn to brand that cattle. And that cattle's name is Hopston. This hoppy brew is approachable and balanced; enjoyable year round and perfectly suited for the hot Texas summer. You're welcome and, yes, you may have another.

On tap at Nobi Public House in Webster, Texas.

First off, glad to see this new Houston brewery getting their product out.

IPA's aren't my favorite style but I know a good to great one when I have it. This one was very average.

It certainly isn't a Hop bomb... the term many people use for IPA's that overcome your taste buds with hoppiness.

Grapefruit and citrus was there, but not overpowering.

Overall to me it was just average. I'll try it again in a few months and see if anything has changed.

Not bad, but not great yet.

On tap at the 8th Wonder Brewery in Houston. Got a great deal, 3 beers and a cool ass glass for $15. Decided to start things strong with a Hopston, poured a pretty translucent golden copper with almost no head from the tap. Put it up to my mouth straight from the bar, get almost no nose, but the taste is super clean and semi-dry. Very sessionable ale, resin and malt along with pine, an extremely light body. I like it and wish it was available in Beaumont. Very good Texas IPA, up there with any I've had from other brewers. Cheers!

On tap at Cottonwood, in Houston.

A: Pours a dark and hazy reddish orange color. A two finger off white head forms. After a minute that recedes and leaves some lace behind.
S: At first grapefruit bitterness hits you in the nose. Then diacetyl is very strong in the middle, and continues to build. The late addition hops come in next, and just gives this lingering generic bitterness. No character at all, and the diacetyl sucks.
T: Again, diacetyl which builds and becomes more apparent as this warms. A lingering grapefruitish like bitterness. Kind of chalky and aspirin like as well.
M/D: Very thin with low to moderate carbonation. A watery body, with a chalky and powdery feel. Blah, I got half way through the pint and did not want to finish this.

Sorry, not good IMO. Diacetyl and late nondescript bittering hops does not make a very good beer. I can't say I will be revisiting this anytime soon.
