Bright pale golden color with great clarity and a bright white head. Grainy nose with some earthy hop.

Lighter bodied brisk carbonation faintly fruity upfront, Apple's pears and citrus rind, herbal earthy hop backing cuts clean and dry. Nice malt body clean and crisp, goes well with mild cheeses. (298 characters)

A: Pours clear golden with small bubbles. The tall crystal white head is thick and rather compact. Slow dissipation leaves nice lacings.

S: Clean mild malt, a little sweet. Bitter hops balances. Light fruity (apples) and a bit metallic. Bready.

T: Bready rich maltyness, almost a bit creamy. Bitter hops are present, but mild. Green apples and still that metallic taste you get from Kölsch and Altbier.

M: Long lovely aftertaste, mild bitterness. Body is light and very gulpable while carbonantion is rich but still smooth.

O: A well balanced Kölsch. Very easy to drink, especiall today - a warm summers day. (615 characters)

Surprisingly amazed at how tasty and smooth this beer is. Any BMC drinker would be completely blown away by Reissdorf Kolsch because it's somewhat similar to the flavors found in your typical cheapo Adjunct Lager, but a million times better. T

The richness and balance of flavor is truly superb. The color is brilliantly light yellow with a nice head, and the flavor/aroma is full of rich grain and smooth hops. High carbonation and light body. The drinkability is perfect. A very fine example of a Kolsch and really, awesome brewing in general . (547 characters)

11.2 oz bottle poured into a Hinterland stange.
4.8% ABV

A - Reissdorf's long-lasting rocky white head crumbles away to a pile of creamy foam leaving chunky lace adorning the glass above the crystal clear golden yellow beer.

S - Subtle hints of noble hop varieties and their light floral characteristics greet the nose in tandem with soft mineral water accents which brighten the clean pale malt base. A pinch of apricot and dried mango add just the slightest fermentation character to the finish of this Kölsch.

T - Red apple slice and juicy Bartlett pear take the nose's fruit nuances to a new level, opening the flavor with a surprising punch. The pale malt base is soft and sweet, almost more pilsner-like than grainy base malt.

M - Soft and smooth, this Kölsch almost feels like wheat is in play with it's velvety feel. It's not crisp and clean like many other varieties. Instead, it lingers with an understated dryness and moderate carbonation tickle.

O - Between the bold fruit attributes of this Kölsch and it's softer Bohemian pilsner-like feel, this Kölsch exemplifies the difference each brewery has for this style but I personally enjoy the more crisp, clean versions a little more. (1,203 characters)

Half Litre bottle, poured into pint glass.

A: Golden colour, clear, one finger head which didn't hang around too long. Looked lively.

S: Chardonay and cork, more hop content than other Koelschs.

T: Grape, wine gum, rubber, less bitterness than some Koelschs, wheaty finish.

M: Crisp texture, light body, well carbonated.

O: Hard to find fault, balanced, crisp, reasonable depth. (383 characters)

500 ml bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly crystal clear golden straw color with a 2 finger dense white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, pepper, floral, grass, cracker, bready grain, and floral earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and strength of malt, hop, and light yeast ester notes; very clean. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, floral, pepper, grass, cracker, bready grain, and floral earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, floral, grass, light pepper, bread, and light earthiness on the finish for a bit. Great flavor balance of malt, hop, and light fruitiness; with an extremely clean flavor profile and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent Kolsch! Great clean and balanced flavor profile, with plenty of flavor for 4.8%; and extremely smooth to drink. A highly enjoyable offering. (1,118 characters)

A- Clear, faded pale amber color, large head that disappears relatively quickly, fair amount of lacing on the glass

S- Smells like white wine, a bit of hops, not a huge amount of malt character

T- Tastes like a sparking chardonnay with a touch of malt, fairly dry hop character and finish, pretty lager-like for an ale, pretty dang refreshing

M- Sparking, a bit foamy, dry, very clean taste

O- Not bad at all. It has a very refreshing taste and goes great with a warm sunny day. (482 characters)

A fantastic, wonderful Kölsch, to be savored on tap only (unless you can be assured of a perfectly fresh bottle, which is rare around here).

Clean, slightly sweet, and biscuity, with a hint of floral and earthy hops that lend little overall bitterness. Smooth and extremely enjoyable.

The Kölsch style may not get a lot of love around here, as it likely reminds many of AALs. I would submit that there are few beers in the world as clean and refreshing, yet still quite flavorful, as this beer. (498 characters)

Reissdorf Kölsch has a thick, foamy, slightly off-white head, a clear, bubbly, golden appearance, and some pretty thick lacing left behind. The aroma is of pungent barley malt and generalized beer. Taste is of sweet bread, barley malt, a dash of hearty hops, and clean water. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Reissdorf Kölsch finishes crisp, refreshing, mild, and delicious. Overall, this is quite good, and I strongly suggest checking it out.

Serving Type: Bottle to stange like glass.

Appearance (4.0): light golden and very clear. Upon pouring has a solid white head and nice carbonation action. However, the head does dissipate somewhat quickly.

Smell (4.0): Smells similar to a dortmunder, in that it has a slight white wine smell to it.

Taste (3.5): Taste good but maybe slightly underwhelming. I'd consider it session-able in that the taste would go with most anything.

Mouthfeel (4.0): Nothing wrong here.

Overall (3.5): Though most of my categorical scores were 4.0, I feel like this one only deserves a 3.5. Everything is solid but it seems to be a bit underwhelming. (638 characters)

Poured into a stange from the bottle, may have been slightly old. No skunk flavor, so at least it was taken care of.

Pours a crystal clear yellow with a large head that dissipated quite quickly.

The fragrance of this beer was lacking, but appropriate for a Kolsch. Pale malts, noble hops. Nothing more, nothing less.

Taste is sweet, with a slight bitter noble hop taste initially, and the beer finishes dry. Very refreshing. A great summer beer.

I imagine on tap the mouthfeel would be far better, or in a newer bottle. Great beer, great light taste. Basically a pilsner ale. (583 characters)

500ml Bottle

Reissdorf Kolsch poured a clear pale gold with a short white head that produced minimal lacing. The nose is mild, and clean with aroma of light fruit. The flavor is; pleasant, crisp, clean and refreshing. Light fruit, pears and green apples dominate with a hint of hops in the background. Mouth feel is very light and crisp with effervescent fizzy bubbles.

Reissdorf Kolsch is a very easy drinker that before you realize you have consumed the entire bottle. (473 characters)

Enjoyed this 12oz bottle out of a large snifter glass.

A: Pours a clear golden hue with a 3-finger, white, frothy head that slowly dissipates down the glass and ends in a solid lace.

S: Crisp and clean malty aroma with a slight hop scent.

T: Malty flavor with a slight tart bitter hop flavor. Finishes on the dry side of tart.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: Not a huge fan of Kolsch but this was by far the best I have tried. Wouldn’t grab it again but glad I tried it. (488 characters)

Pours a beautiful, crystal clear, golden wheat color topped by an egg-shell white head that has a soft texture and a perfect consistency. Served in a strange glass.

The aroma is a gentle hop aroma filled with fresh grass and herbs, followed by a hay-like malt aroma, which is simple yet elegant at the same time.

Reissdorf Kolsch is a perfectly-balanced beer with Noble hops up front, with a slightly bitter finish and sweet biscuit malts in the aftertaste.

Texture is excellent with a creamy mouthfeel and a lively carbonation. Finishes really smooth.

This has got to be the pinnacle of the kolsch style. Just a fantastic beer, and I wish that this was something more available in our area. I think this beer is a must try for any true beer lover. Just amazing!

Pair this beer with pretzels, landjagers and any kind of wursts!

Poured into a Parkbrau Pils glass on 8/23/12

Shiny, clear golden yellow with a two finger head of bright white foam. The foam doesn't last for terribly long; a diminished layer remains after only a few minutes. Hardly any lace. Still, it was a sharp looking beer for a short spell.

The aroma strikes me as interesting - it's not nearly as grainy as I would have figured. Instead, there are floral and grassy notes, lemon, honey and delicate light fruit notions. Swirling the glass draws out crackers and buttered biscuit.

Hmm. Tastes hoppier than I might expect, too. The front end is awash in grassy hops with citric bite in the middle and mild bitterness lingering on the finish. Neat. The hops are rounded out with toasty, fairly neutral grains. This tastes just fine to me.

Crisp and fast seem sufficient to describe the feel. The body is light and geared toward drinkability. All the while carbonation is bubbly, carrying the beer off with astounding ease.

Dang, I want more of this. Multiple pints, please. (1,018 characters)

Poured into a pint glass
A: 1.5 finger of fizzy white head with good retention. Would be better if it was more pillowy. Crystal clear pale wan yellow. Decent, not 100% enticing. Good for the style, sans the head. No head remains after a bit.
S: Grain and slightly skunky hops. Metallic aroma detracts. No esters/yeast aroma. Maybe some apple must aroma, a nice addition!
T: Clean, slightly bright apple, no off flavors. Apple juice is strong, some herbal hops are present. Hard to get more than that...My gut tells me that it's a fine representation of the style.
M: Smooth, silky, refreshing
O: Fine quality. I'd love another. Great warm day beer. I'd buy 6 of these. (668 characters)

I picked out this beer to pair with barbeque, as well as a last hurrah for summer. Kolsch's just remind me of the warm summer months.

On the pour I get a golden yellow with about two fingers of light foam. This was less foam than I expected, but that didn't affect my scoring.

On the pour I picked up a little grape off the top. As the beer I smell some redder grape flavor. It is pretty sweet.

The flavor has more of the European hop presence. I also pick up some of the graininess.

This is a very easy to drink beer. I recommend it for the last outdoor occasions until you have to put your shorts away (until next summer). (628 characters)

A- Clearish light yellow body. Large white head that dissipates to a respectable ring and foam top.

A- Grainy sweetness. Something grassy or herbal though?

T- Sweet and slightly bitter with a mostly dry finish.

M- Light body with a moderate to high carbonation.

D- A very enjoyable Kölsch. (294 characters)

Had on tap at the moan and dove in Amherst. Poured into a slender.

A - Poured a nice crystal clear straw with a one finger head that fades to leave a thin blanket and light side lacing.

S - Aromas of light grains and bready malts with some slight sweetness and grassyness.

T - Taste isn't bad. More of those grassy hops with nice bready notes as well as a slight metallic taste though. It comes right after the bread and before the sweetish floral hops.

M - Mouthfeel is nice and crisp ans clean. Goos carbonation for a kolsch.

O - Overall I felt this was a solid kolsch offering. Nice pleasant aromas and flavours along with a solid appearance. Jolly good. (662 characters)

On tap at Boneyard Bistro in Sherman Oaks, CA.

Pours a clear gold with a foamy bone colored head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, grass, and hay. Taste is much the same with a mild hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is easy to drink and pretty tasty. (484 characters)

A good medium-gold colored body with a nice white head; some lacing on the glass as the beer disappears. Aroma emits grass-like notes with a hint of cereal and grain; slightly zesty. Bread-like taste, with a tangy bitterness. Overall soft mouthfeel; clean and dry.

A very good German ale, refreshing and quenching. (315 characters)

Review from 8/2010 notes. Poured into a kölsch glass. Pours a pale yellow amber, thick long lasting head and lacing. Strong hoppy, light malt aroma. Wheat flavors, light malt, hops, sweetness and light bready flavors with a hoppy, dry finish. A bit of a skunky flavor at the end, but it fits with the overall flavor. Refreshing. This is a reminder of the tragedy of our adjunct beers and that a brewery can make a light, low ABV beer that is flavorful and a pleasure to drink. (477 characters)

Served in a strange glass

A - It is golden colored and topped with three inches of white head.

S - I has a slight skunky smell to it. I find that all kolsch beers have a certain degree of it. I also get some grain. Crisp, clean finish.

T - I get grain and some lemon zest.

M - Moderate to thin

O - As far as I'm concerned this is the kolsch that all others are judged by. I have always liked this beer. (422 characters)
