Pours out to a flat head that goes away (bad pour or dirty glass?) and cola-like color. Aroma is coffee, toffee, toasted malt, and hints of smoke and vanilla. Flavor is toasty, roasty and a tad bit chocolately with some fruit esters and higher alcohols lurking about. Mouthfeel is smooth and comfortable. Overall a very tasty and assertive brown.

Fossil Cove La Brea Brown

A: Dark brown with a slight red hue. Medium white head.

S: Malty with molasses.

T/M: Fairly sweet with a hint of coffee on the finish. Has what is seemingly the trademark of this brewery, a strong bread finish. Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: A very good beer for a young brewery. I have had the pleasure of having this beer several times and have enjoyed it every time. Easily my favorite local beer from my favorite local brewery. Highly recommended!

If you're in the Northwest Arkansas area, seek out this beer. Perfectly balanced brown ale and by far the best in the style I've ever tasted. Subtle sweetness and fruitiness impeccably balanced with the light hop bitterness.

The folks at Fossil Cove use a Belgian yeast in this beer to create an interesting version of the traditional American Brown Ale. This is a consistently good and very approachable beer.
