very cool beer, somewhere at the intersection of a tripel and a hefe, its very unique, unlike other belgian stuff, but built in a similar fashion. its hazy and blonde, lighter in feel than it looks, and showing about an inch of lasting white head. a nose of dusty old german malts, truly uncommon in belgian ale. the yeast also adds to this ancient sort of unearthing aromatic, its funky, short of brett beer funk, but strange and wintery spices come out to me, but i can see dried banana and even vanilla to this. the flavor is malt driven, some wheat in here and some fruity notes from the yeast, which gets very farmhouse in nature, even a slight tartness to the finish. the texture is great, its a little sweet all the way through like a tripel, but it finishes extremely dry, almost nothing left on the tongue when its swallowed. my impression of this beer is that it is probably rated so low here because it is misunderstood. it is certainly not in line with any traditional belgian style, but its uniqueness is what makes it for me. i love the yeast, and appreciate its overall quality. a blonde beer for colder weather i reckon, big fan.

Center poured from a 11.2 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.
Nice pale golden color, slightly hazy, with a fluffy finely bubbled head. Initially about 1", settles to a thin film. Little lacing.
Mostly sweet mashed bananas on the nose, a little floral/grassiness.
More creamy banana on the taste, estery sweetness, followed with some herbal and grassy notes and a very slight bitterness on the end. Some red apple comes out as it warms, and a little bit of a vinous character, like white wine. Very smooth.
Soft, light, creamy texture, ends a little drier than it starts. Very drinkable.
An interesting beer. Not too heavy on the ester/phenol characters like some Belgian pales, with some complexity and character.
