Our single hop series has been a delicious and interesting experiment into the diverse world of hops. Following an identical recipe but only changing one variable each time (the hop) we've been able to study the exact aromatics and flavours imparted by specific varieties. Not unlike the series launched by Mikkeller, here at Bellwoods our Monagamy brews are all about settling down with one love. Yes, when ordering this beer in the brewpub the jokes are endless (ie. “I'm not so sure about monogamy” or “I tried monogamy once and never really liked it” or the oft hilarious “I guess I'll have it because my girlfriend/boyfriend is sitting beside me”) but stop being a wise-ass. Even the polygamous can't deny the allure of this beer.

CITRA: Pungent, intensely floral, and peppery with sharp notes of tropical fruit.

Hazy light golden orange, a bit more than a finger of white head with some lace as well. Smell is hoppy, citrus and tropical fruits, mango and grapefruit are dominant, a bit of biscuity cracker malt in line with the rest of the series. Taste is dry and hoppy, bitter with dank citrus fruits, orange peel, mango and grapefruit, light cracker like malt, long hoppy aftertaste. Drying feel, light carbonation, medium bodied. Perhaps my favorite monogamy so far, it's been a long time since Nelson but I really enjoyed this one, very nice stuff here.

Fresh bottle from Bellwoods.

Cloudy orange in colour with a moderately-sized white head. Nice retention and lacing.

Citra hops result in the expected juicy fruit scents. Big citrus and tropical smells, notably mango, orange and peach.

Taste stays pretty close to the aroma. Bright and fruity, with a focus on mango and peach, along with a bit of grapefruit. Moderately bitter. A light malt base gives a bit of a bready backbone, but the hops are the focus.

Medium bodied and moderately carbonated.

Overall, very nice. One of the best of the series, but Nelson Sauvin is still tops for me.

Pours a hazy light straw with peach glints. The compact top lasts a long time and spackles the glass in chunks of foam. The aroma is fruity and tropical with wet grains in there too. Citrusy, floral, papaya, mango hop flavors abound in the taste. A sturdy cookie dough malt base provides solid balance. The mouthfeel is light bodied with a prickly, somewhat coarse carbonation. The finish is moderately bitter and long long lasting.

A very nice Monogamy edition. Citra is a great single hop variety and they do a very good job - very complex. Seek this out.
