Notes & Commercial Description:

Farmhouse Classic is one of the first beers we ever brewed, and a popular one at that. A golden Belgian ale fermented with a traditional Saison yeast strain and Brettanomyces. This ale is very refreshing, perfectly balanced, and full of flavour despite its light appearance. With this specific version we opted for authenticity, and as many Belgian breweries do, we bottle conditioned the final product, producing a lively effervescence. The resulting brew is really something special.

Labeled as "Farmhouse Classic" with 6.5% ABV. Bottling date of March 12, 2013.

(4.25) A: Hazy straw colour with a visible and lively carbonation. Very tall and foamy head that sticks around for a while and clings to the glass well.

(4.0) S: Banana, pineapple, cloves, fresh grains, floral qualities, honey, and a bit of sour lemon. Quite belgiany. Good diversity and mix of aromas.

(4.0) T: Lemon-grapefruit tartness, floral hop qualities, cloves, grains, and honey sweetness. Similar to aroma but fruits are more citrus-like in the taste. Fresh, dry, and slightly bitter with enough natural sweetness.

(4.0) M: Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Fairly oily with a pleasant prickly carbonation.

(4.0) D: This was very good and I’m glad I picked this up. Fresh and full of flavour.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Very much in the style although not exceptional, I enjoyed the corriander punch. Pale yellow and lots of lace. Mild funk and lots of leather in the aroma. Smooth mouthfeel. Yeasty, easy drinking. Not complex spicyness so farmhouse more than saison in my book. A bit better in the bottle, aged a bit.

Pours light yellow with a bright white foamy head. Nose is yeast, lemon, funk, some earthy hops. Taste is bitter belgian yeast mostly, lemon and grassy, bit of maltiness rounds out the finish. Left with a drying mouthfeel, medium bodied.
Very smooth drinking beer, I appreciate its subtlies. Nice funkiness and appropriate bitterness. Ill revisit since I grabbed 3 bottles on a whim/heard good things.

Thanks Liamt07!

Appearance. Pours a hazy straw gold with 2.5 fingers of fluffy white head that has decent retention.

Smell. Coriander, clove and a little banana, spicy saison yeast and some earthy hops. Also a little citrus, mainly lemon and a little orange.

Taste. Spicy saison yeast, cloves and a little white pepper, sweet light grains, and a little citrus zest.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, smooth medium carbonation.

Overall. Very nice stuff and indeed "classic".

Bottle: Poured a hazy light yellow color ale with a super large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral and light grassy notes with deep rustic malt flavours. Taste is also dominated by deep rustic malt flavours with limited sweetness and some grainy notes. Light dry and floral hoppy notes are also discernable. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Well brewed done maybe a tad too much grainy malt notes for my liking.

Called "Farmhouse Saison" on my bottle and listed at 6.5% ABV.
Bottle conditioned 750 bottle poured in to tulip.

A - Slight gush before the pour. Poured a slightly cloudy pale straw yellow. Despite a slow pour, half of the glass filled with thick bright white head; good retention.

S - Yeast esters and clove up front. Some fruitiness, lemon, bready malts and spice.

T - Dryness up front accompanies Belgian yeast and clove flavours up front. Mid-palate adds sweet bready malts and lemon. The finish is peppery spice.

M - Medium body. Dry. Moderate carbonation.

650ml bottle, bottled Nov 1st 2012

A - Good, 2" pillowy head on a carbonated apple juice-esque brew.

S - A little funk, lemon zest, light wheat, earthy hops

T - Some funk, light fruit tartness, some bitter, very little malt. Hides it's 6.5% well.

M - A little too thin for my liking, but not bad. Good carbonation, beautiful head that sticks around forever

O - Pretty good. Would definitely have again.

Purchased directly at the brewery.

Bit of a peppery flavor, very refreshing with some citrus. Awesome lacing with huge, billowy head atop a light gold body. An excellent saison.

Huge thanks to TheSevenDuffs for including this as part of the fall CanBif.

A: Pours a medium hay with large billowy head which lingers.

S: Traditional saison scents of spicey yeast and citrus with background notes of fresh sawdust and a slight barnyard funk. As it warms there is a crisp sweetness together with floral scents that emerges.

T: Strong spicy yeast and malty grains followed by orange peel. Hint of barnyard funkiness on the finish along with mild bitter notes.

M: Light bodied with high carbonation. Finishes dry and clean.

O: A complex and tasty saison that is clean and dry. Another tasty beer from Bellwoods which has become my favourite Ontario brewery. Thanks again to Marcus for giving me the opportunity to try.

On tap at the brewery, into a tulip.

Opaque orange with huge lacing and a good bit of lacing. Nose is a bit stinky (can't quite pin it down), funky, wheat, lemon citrus and some drying character. Taste has wheat, drying grain flavours, pepper, pale malts and some citrus. Heavier medium body that I appreciate in the style, and higher medium carbonation. Something I'd definitely revisit.

Appearance: It has a beautiful hazy golden color to it. It has a nice very thick white head that dies down slowly and leaves some light lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of Belgian yeast, peppery notes, bready malts, lemon zest, coriander and some faint cloves.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a Belgian yeast, peppery spices, cloves, bready malts, lemon zest and coriander.

Mouthfeel: It has a med/high carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by good flavors and aromas.

Spice, lemony and dry. Classic farmhouse beer. Could be more eccentric or drinkable.

On the bright side: This beer has great appearance and head, very nice fine carbonation, crisp as can be and has a nice gentle lemon citrus quality. Really quite dry too.

On the down side: I'm definitely getting some sulphur / DMS in here. I'm not well versed in off-flavours but it's a noticeable gym sock / boiled egg quality and it's still there when you drink, though not overly pronounced.

Still plenty enjoyable but it's a bummer that weird flavour's in there.

On tap at Grand Electric.

Beer is a cloudy blonde/golden, with a nice white head and lots of lacing.

Smells quite dry, with a bit of funk. Some floral notes and muted fruit scents.

Taste, like the nose, is quite dry. Some funk, yeast and a lemon flavour, along with some spices and other light fruit.

Highly carbonated with a medium body.

Overall, very nice. Enjoyed two of these and look forward to having more of them.

500ml bottle poured into tulip 2/6/14 cheers liamt07 for sending me a bottle

A hazed golden orange with enough clarity to see bubbles going up the center and I quickly end up with half a glass of soapy foam, good retention ending up as a thick film that leaves random lace

S peppery farmhouse yeast, a hint of citrus, lots of cereals, some bubblegum, not quite funk but I'm liking the yeasty notes, smells strong

T some orange marmalade, added to what I smell, wheat and spice with lots of yeast, tastes like a Saison

M a little foamy but the style often is, lighter side of medium, very faint booze on the way down, leaves the palate slick, spicy finish

O this one didn't last long and you could get your ass kicked smashing this one on a hot sunny day, one of those beers I'd like to try at different ages

Bellwoods continues to impress me, I've had few styles from them now and all have been solid. I'd trade Bellwoods for pretty much any of my hometown breweries and I doubt I'd regret it.

Pours hazy bronze with lots of fine streams of carbonation. Gigantic, snow white head lasts the whole glass and coats it in foam on the way down. Bready malt and a ‘classic’ citrusy, peppery Saison yeast in the nose. The taste is lemony with a touch of tartness. Chewy malts mingle with intricate yeast esters and a light, citrusy hop profile. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and creamy with smooth carbonation bubbles. The finish is lightly bitter and earthy.

This is a great Saison. Quite complex and juicy. Worth trying for sure.
