Grandma's Boy Tripel
Bellwoods Brewery
The Grandma's Boy Tripel has a serious past with Bellwoods. There was the original Grandma's Boy Tripel, the blend with our early Farmhouse Saison (later Farmhouse Classic) that we named Cuvée De Grandma's Boy, and then of course the barrel-aged version — our first barrel-aged beer release.
So it goes without saying that Grandma's Boy holds a special place in our hearts. This barrel-aged version received a healthy dose of ripe yellow plums, courtesy of Not Far From The Tree, and was left to age and gain wisdom in Niagara wine barrels for just over 6 months. We think of this beer as the very beginning of our dynamic barrel-aging experiments, and the positive feedback from its release has motivated us to expand our barrel program substantially.

hazy, opaque light orange with off-white head. mild-to-moderate brett character, bright and fruity (lemony plums). finishes with a dry, white wine-like finish. full-bodied. blew me away

Got on a trade. Served at 5deg C in a tulip
A- Opened with an incredible pop. Pours a 1" high white head that stays for a minute before film out. Medium gold colored and unfiltered
S- Lots of Brett here.
T- Sour and a touch bitter. Has a thick body but lacks that tripel pop. I like the Brett but it's a more one sided brew than anything else albeit a good brew
M- Pretty dry and tart as expected but not that great
O- Pretty good brew overall. Will drink if someone else buys it as I feel it's not the greatest of deals out there. Pretty expensive and that is reflected in the rating
Food Pairing
This nice brew went very well with........ Cucumber with dill, sour cream and a touch of melted butter on top. Slice the cucumber thin then add the rest. I like sometimes a green onion diced up too.
Enjoy

Dry, pretty tart but not boldly so. Lightly tart fruity nose.

Low brett aroma with a dry citrus aspect. Translates into the flavor, but real rich plum flavor. Loved this beer!

From notes
Appearance: It has a nice hazy golden/orange color to it. It has a nice white head that dies down slowly and leaves some lacing.
Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of lemon, plums, Brett, definite funk and some woody oak.
Taste: Like the aromas, it has some lemon/plum tartness along with Brett characteristics, funk and woody oak.
Mouthfeel: It has a medium carbonation with a very nice overall balance and feel.
Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by great flavors and aromas.
Serving type: bottle
