This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

The Petal Head is a souped-up version of our Belgian Pale Ale, Petal Pusher. Brewed with a Saison yeast, this floral pale beer is refreshing and hoppy, with a nice dry finish. More hoppy than a White Picket, and slightly more phenolic than the Petal Pusher, this distinct effervescent Belgian ale is blonde but certainly not dumb.

On tap at the brewery, into a tulip.

Unfiltered darker orange with mild retention and excellent lace. Nose is herbal, has some clementine and tangerine, saison yeast and a peppery note. Taste is herbal, has some dank character, tangerine and more saison yeast spicing. Some honeydew melon, wheat and fresh, juicy hop character. Drying finish with a fairly high degree of bitterness. Higher medium carbonation. Quite nice within the style, but perhaps a bit too bitter to have several of. (489 characters)

On tap @ Bellwoods.

A - Cloudy medium yellow. Half a finger of cream coloured head.

S - Crisp hop bitterness - grapefruit, pine. Bready malts and a lighter clove presence.

T - Sharp bitterness up front with grapefruit, grassy flavours and some bready malts adding some sweetness and balance. The finish changes completely with a dry saison-like flavour and some spice, clove and yeast esters. This really is a tale of two beers in one. Odd, yet interesting and very tasty.

M - Light to medium body. Light carbonation. Dry. (530 characters)

Listed both as a dry-hopped saison and a mix between a saison and a Belgian Pale.

Beer is a cloudy orange-yellow colour. A small but solid white head fades fairly quickly, leaving a good amount of lace.

Smell contains yeast, floral notes, bread and white pepper.

Taste is fruity, with peach and banana noticeable for me. A bit of a bubblegum flavour. Spices, particularly white pepper. A bit of lemongrass. Some yeast. A moderately dry finish.

Medium bodied, highly carbonated. Carbonation level is irritatingly high.

Overall, nice beer, but I certainly prefer Bellwoods' regular Farmhouse Ale saison. (619 characters)
