Definitely on the lighter end of the Tripel style, Phantom Limb is the perfect marriage between the subtle bitterness of a pale ale, and the dryness of a Belgian Tripel. Floral aromatics, notes of dried apricot, and a slightly spicy finish.

12 oz glass on-tap at the brewery into a tulip glass.

A cloudy orange and yellow amber. One inch super fine head. Good lacing. No carbonation.

Yeast esters dominate the aroma. Notes of fruitiness.

Rich flavour of sweetbread and fruit - mango and citrus. Noble hops complete the flavour picture. Lots of warmth from the alcohol without being boozy. The bitterness filled the mouth for several hours.

A full mouthfeel that was so pleasurable that it almost distracted from the taste.

An excellent smooth tripel that lacks the deep head and sharpness of the best of the type but was a real treasure.

Hazy radiant golden orange colour, just over a finger of white head, some lace. Smell is distinctly belgian yeast, spicy and phenolic, banana and tropical fruit, fairly hop forward as well. Taste is spicy and earthy before giving way to fruity green apple and tropical fruit with just a bit of banana detected, moderate bitterness with a light mid palate sweetness, finishes yeasty with a bit of hops in the aftertaste. Medium carbonation, medium body and lightly creamy. A solid Tripel, well executed and easily drinkable, can certainly hang with some of its Belgian counterparts.

On-tap at Bellwoods.

The beer is an opaque orange gold. A moderately sized white head with decent retention.

Nose contains yeast, bread, some light fruit and spices.

Sweet malt flavours are strong, with a taste of honey. Spice, particularly clove. Light fruits, including banana and apple. A bit of citrus. Belgian yeast. Booze is a bit strong.

Full bodied, low carbonation level. Smooth. Some heat, which is disappointing. The oats provide some softness.

Overall, pretty good. It reminds me a bit of Karmaliet (probably because of the oats), but it does not have the finesse of that beer.
