A special edition of our classic Farmhouse Saison, this version is aged in Brett barrels for 4-6 months. Because we're such a micro operation, each batch of Farmageddon varies slightly, reflecting the small blends we do, never combining more than 8-10 barrels. In some barrels we use more Brett Brux, in others Brett Lambicus. If this all sounds confusing, fear not — all you need to know is that the refined, effervescent beer that hibernates in these bottles is a dynamic labour of love, changing and improving with time.

Name: Farmageddon
Brewery: Bellwoods
Style: Wild Ale
ABV: 7%
Date: 2019
I have a few of these Canadian beers left to consume. I believe the rest are of the wild ale variety. Using my Jester King glass, I poured the beer around 46 degrees. The pour created a raspberry colored frothy and airy head. The dissipation was quick, that airy, leaving no lacing on the glass. The color is akin to cherry syrup, a dark ruby red. The overall appearance is good for this style.
Raspberries is the dominate aromas with that funky barnyard sourness. Nosing the beer a few more times, I detect citrus, acidic acid, oak, a light floral, and a touch of fruity sweetness.
Wow, tarty raspberries with sour lemons and funky barnyard is the primary flavors. Sipping the beer a bit slower, I notice oak, floral, and some earthiness.
The mouthfeel is puckering and dry. The body is light, high carbonation and has a medium finish.
This raspberries is up front and the star of this show. I think just a touch of sweetness would help temper the sourness. Overall fantastic beer. Remember this thing is a slow sipper.

Poured from the bottle into a Bellwood's snifter glass. Batch #13.
Very clear body, with a nice bright white fluffy topped two finger head. Surprisingly a bit of retention, even with the sound of snappy wild bubbles surrounding it. Some effervescence through the body, which as this real lovely yellowish green hue to it, almost dark honey tinged green, very unique color.
Excellent funky notes on the nose. Hits of big tartness but with a real soft almost cedar like tinge to them. Hits with green herbs, is that thyme? I smell? And a bit of sour peach touches that are quite nice.
Palate makes some real nice roads. Very juiced up body with a good rounded woody sensing mouthfeel. Big hints of tart orange and peach like flavors, mixing with just a small hint of peppery carbonation that really makes the palate just pop on the tongue. Sweet and tart, but mostly a nice rounded amount of fruited flavors that just hit so nicely. Has saison qualities, but with more tartness and funk, but hints of dry pepper just barely.
Very unique beer, love this Farmageddon series form these guys. Good stuff!

This one pours a clear rusted orange color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like hay and barnyard funk, sharp grapefruit, oak, and lemon.
This is pretty simple, but it's got a classic American funky saison feel to it. It's very lemony and very funky, with a killer oak character, and a nice little citrusy thing going on.
This has a surprisingly low level of carbonation, but it's very, very drinkable, with a pretty light body.
Bellwoods does this sort of thing really well. They also basically do every sort of thing well.

Batch 11 from 2016.
Rusty yellow, no head.
Aroma is slightly tart and funky, but it comes through a lot more in the flavour.
Fairly dry, not too acidic, could use more bubbles.

Hazy bright yellow color with white head. Aroma has really nice floral and grassy yeast esters, not too funky, just clean floral yeast. Taste has a light lemon tartness, quite clean but floral and grassy with meadow flowers and farmhouse flavors. Light body, medium carbonation. Overall it's a really well made, rustic farmhouse ale.
