When I visited: April 2012.

What I had: Lost River Baltic Porter, Witchshark Imperial IPA, Berliner Weisse, various snacks, dessert.

What I liked: Comfortable, welcoming atmosphere, excellent timely service, delicious food and beer. Bellwoods is cranking out high quality takes on under-represented styles, and they blow Mill St. and Granite out of the water. I’ll be interested to see how other newcomers - like the Indie Alehouse - stack up.

What I disliked: Nothing. My only criticism is that the beer, while very good, falls short of greatness. These guys will continue to evolve, though, and I think their best is yet to come.

Would I go back? Absolutely.

Vibe: This place is awesome. Visited two nights in a row (Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon/evening), and both times there was a line to get seated. Everyone is super friendly (Canadians, eh), and you just get the feeling everyone working here loves the beer/brewery, and tons of locals frequent it as well.

Quality: Prior to my trip, research via BA indicated Bellwoods is probably creating the best beers in Canada - I would agree with this statement. Their IIPA was outstanding, resinous and hoppy, yet still balanced nicely. They also had a limited mango version on tap which was quite quaffable. Their bottle sales (to enjoy on-site or take away) were great. We had a bottle of the Motley Cru (Sour Red aged in white wine oak barrels if memory serves right), and it was fabulous.

Service: Attentive and knowledgable about both food and beers.

Selection: My only gripe (and it's a very small one), was that they only had about six beers on draft. Would've loved to have tried more. Each was very well done.

Food: I didn't expect the food to shine, but like the beer it was also great. Their charcuterie/salumi plate, along with the cheese selections were great compliments to the tap list.

You. Must. Go. to Bellwoods if you're visiting. If you're a local, you must travel to BW on a frequent basis.

As you can tell from the many positive reviews, Bellwoods seems to be a popular place to get some excellent beers. Having been able to see for myself, I agree: it is located in a quiet semi-residential neighborhood, a bit west of the downtown core. (I took the No. 63 Bus from the Ossington Street subway station - it passes right by.) The focal point is the busy patio that is set out from the open garage doors; there is a small bar to the left with a smattering of cramped tables taking up what space there is for the rather hipster crowd. Next door is the retail store. On draft were a wide array of their delicious brews; during my visit: I enjoyed: Wizard Wolf, a crisp sessional IPA, Paper Tiger, a dry-hopped lager, a nice and balanced stout, Witchshark, a massive Imperial IPA and wonderful barrel-aged session called "Farmageddon." Worth the trip, alone.

Great service and a unique food menu - I opted for their Chorizo verde, a spicy sausage entrée - makes for a must visit when in Toronto. I understand that they are expanding. No surprise here. I wish them well.

Visited Bellwoods on a busy June Saturday. It's packed and noisy, and our party of two was seated upstairs in a narrow seating section relatively quickly. The beer was great, service was friendly, and the food was really good. A standout the day we were there was the asparagus - but the tuna, and the fries, were also good.

Went to get some bottles but had to stay for 1!!

VERY expensive. Plain and simple.

Excellent selection. Had a Bring Out Your Dead. $22.00 for a 500ml bottle. Again VERY expensive.
Would be a stretch at $10.00 at the bottle shop but would buy a few for the cellar.

Did not try and of the food but what came out of the kitchen looked very attractive.

Looking forward to going back but I better save up as the pricing is HIGH.

Visited only the bottle shop, they had 3 or 4 beers available for purchase, mostly session ales. Nice, clean and friendly. The bar looked awesome and hope to come back to enjoy some beers on site.

Went here last night...

Walking up, really cool looking place, good outside seating area. During busy time they have you wait in line just to get to the host, who is also working as a server, so we waited ten minutes until we even knew what the deal was. You're also not allowed to even go to the bar as you wait. Once we got approached the hostess was really nice and got us seated at the bar within five minutes.

Once at the bar, really cool inside area, also has an upstairs and is all in viewing area of the brewery which looks to be a 10bbl system. On tap is mostly house beers, I had a the Witch IPA and the Brett american Pale Ale, both good. Buddy had a the Grizzly Brown and Stout, both good. We ordered the meat plate which was great. Ordered the buffalo chicken sausage, which was a little small but very good and spicy. After those two plates we ordered the flat iron steak, which took over 25 minutes to cook and we eventually cancelled it. That's when the waitress started giving us some lip.

Overall, I'd go back and try again on a less busy night. Place stays open till midnight every day.

SIDE NOTE: Good bottle selection, a lot of belgians, some sours, some saisons. Bottle Shop is cool too.
