When I visited: April 2012.

What I had: Lost River Baltic Porter, Witchshark Imperial IPA, Berliner Weisse, various snacks, dessert.

What I liked: Comfortable, welcoming atmosphere, excellent timely service, delicious food and beer. Bellwoods is cranking out high quality takes on under-represented styles, and they blow Mill St. and Granite out of the water. I’ll be interested to see how other newcomers - like the Indie Alehouse - stack up.

What I disliked: Nothing. My only criticism is that the beer, while very good, falls short of greatness. These guys will continue to evolve, though, and I think their best is yet to come.

Would I go back? Absolutely.

Went to get some bottles but had to stay for 1!!

VERY expensive. Plain and simple.

Excellent selection. Had a Bring Out Your Dead. $22.00 for a 500ml bottle. Again VERY expensive.
Would be a stretch at $10.00 at the bottle shop but would buy a few for the cellar.

Did not try and of the food but what came out of the kitchen looked very attractive.

Looking forward to going back but I better save up as the pricing is HIGH.

Enjoy

Visited only the bottle shop, they had 3 or 4 beers available for purchase, mostly session ales. Nice, clean and friendly. The bar looked awesome and hope to come back to enjoy some beers on site.

Went here last night...

Walking up, really cool looking place, good outside seating area. During busy time they have you wait in line just to get to the host, who is also working as a server, so we waited ten minutes until we even knew what the deal was. You're also not allowed to even go to the bar as you wait. Once we got approached the hostess was really nice and got us seated at the bar within five minutes.

Once at the bar, really cool inside area, also has an upstairs and is all in viewing area of the brewery which looks to be a 10bbl system. On tap is mostly house beers, I had a the Witch IPA and the Brett american Pale Ale, both good. Buddy had a the Grizzly Brown and Stout, both good. We ordered the meat plate which was great. Ordered the buffalo chicken sausage, which was a little small but very good and spicy. After those two plates we ordered the flat iron steak, which took over 25 minutes to cook and we eventually cancelled it. That's when the waitress started giving us some lip.

Overall, I'd go back and try again on a less busy night. Place stays open till midnight every day.

SIDE NOTE: Good bottle selection, a lot of belgians, some sours, some saisons. Bottle Shop is cool too.

Tried samples of all of the Bellwood's beers and though there were a few that were quite good on the whole they were under attenuated, muddled, and dull. Some were not good at all. The bottle list was not bad and it is nice to have Westie 12 on the list. The great variety of beers they make seems to have prevented them thus far from taking the time to iterate and master any one beer in particular. Hopefully that will change in the future.

The place itself is insanely noisy, crowded and unpleasant.

I came here on a business trip and was pleasantly happy with my experience. Small bar and a few tables, food was limited, a lIttle pricey for the mains, but very well done and tasty. I only had snacks, but the oxtail the guy next to me ordered smelled fantastic. The beers are the star though. All the house brews were phenomenal, and there was an extensive bottle selection as well. The shop next door sells bottles to go. If I come back to Toronto I will definitely be back. Highly recommended, any my co-workers suck for not coming with me.

On holiday vacation in Toronto in late December, I convinced my Canadian family to bring me here. The brewery is located in the art & design district of Toronto so there are some cool vintage shops, artwork, and interesting establishments on the same street.

Bellwoods opens at 2 pm on Saturday and we arrived then because we had my 9 month old daughter in tow and we wanted to guarantee a table inside. They were very accommodating and even had a high chair for the baby. The inside of the brewery is small and there are not many tables in there although they have a small upstairs area and a small patio too. The first 2 hours they are open is the "witching hours" so draft beers are $1 off. We sampled several on draft at decent prices for Toronto (around $6 or $7 each) and tax included. For food the lunch menu is very limited but we had fries with sriracha mayo sauce for dipping which was awesome, a bowl of olives, meat tray with salami & prosciutto and bread with coffee butter. Some pretty good snacks for beer drinking and service was really friendly and nice.

The beers were all excellent: Grizzly Beer Brown Ale, Cat Lady IPA, Stay classy Session Ale, Toil and Trouble Dubbel, and our favorite was the Blitzen Saison. After we finished eating and beers, we stopped at the bottle shop on our way out where we picked up some Donkey Venom Brett Porter, Hellwoods RIS and others to go. 500 mL bottles are around $6-$8 each, which isn't cheap but not terrible either and totally worth it. Will definitely visit Bellwoods again and highly recommend for fellow BAs!
