355ml can poured into tulip 18/12/13
A clear golden yellow, stream of big bubbles feed a fast falling, noisy thumbs width of foam that leaves no lace
S bread, apple juice, paper shredding, and some cooked veggies and sweet grains
T just a little herbal tea bag to go with what I smell, metallic notes added as it warms, basic but no off flavors
M a little foamy and thin, some apple on the finish
O a step above macros but that's about it, not much going on but drinkable nonetheless
shes a lawnmower beer and that's about it, another brewery in Alberta that I'm not all that excited about, yawn...

The first offering from this new rural Alberta brewery. A lunchtime pint (or two) at Sherlock Holmes' downtown YEG location.
The beer appears a clear, glassy medium golden yellow, with one finger of soapy, loose white head, which leaves a nice dripping paint vista of lace around the glass as it duly settles.
It smells of sweet pastry malt, a bit of marzipan, and leafy, floral hops. The taste is grainy, sweet pale malt, a softened yeasty breadiness, some subtle orchard fruitiness, and more juicy, floral, earthy hops.
The carbonation is a tad frizzy at first, but in no real distracting manner, the body a solid medium weight, a little bit clammy, but really quite smooth. It finishes off-dry, the bready notes, while waning in sweetness, also face an equal clearing out of hop presence. I suppose this means that you're meant to go back to the well for a recharge.
An admirable groundbreaker for a brewer in a province where taking on BMC in the lager game has not proven tenable at any time of late. Like Yellowhead, and Maverick before them, Ribstone make an approachable all-malt, fairly hearty lager. I hope to see more of it challenging the hearts, minds, and livers of local Canadian and Bud fans, as well as the rest of us who appreciate a decent lager.
