This crushing double IPA, named for the legendary hop that predominates, is one of New Zealand craft brewing’s original palate benders, famous for squeezing every last drop of flavour and aroma from its American namesake. Strong notes of citrus shouldn’t surprise anyone who reads the label.

A massive thanks goes out to MrKennedy for this Bday present your the man and ive never heard of this before so its more than a pleasant suprise and pours a murky apricot hue which leaves a nice creamy two finger head and lacing here and there, the smell is wow wow wow i never give anything a score this high usually for smell unless it really stands out and this one clearly does with aromas of pineapple, orange orchard, freshly torn lemon leaves, mandarins, lychee, bubblegum and mangoes it really is a beautiful use of the hop,the mouthfeel is just under medium bodied and could be a little thicker and the taste is fruit salad, pineapple, oranges, mangoes, sherbet, bubblegum, kiwi fruit and finished with a nice lime bitterness and overall i really like this drop and have to go and shake up my local to see if they can get it in and am very interested to try the rest of their range as this is something you have to try even if just for the smell cheers.

Cloudy pale amber (9) with thick 2 finger white foam that reduces to a good cap; good lace. Grapefruit nose at first turns to grassy hop then slightly earthy hop the longer the beer sits in the glass. Grapefruit juice with subtle caramel foundation, some tropical fruit (mango), with bitter hop finish. Medium lite mouthfeel with zippy medium plus carbonation, and a little warming. Overall outstanding, nice blend of citrus/tropical flavors and even a little alcohol bite in the bitter linger. Well done.

I didn't get the head and retention that other people are saying they had.... I'd say it has a light copper colour, but the real thing that gets me I'd the smell. I live it! Very strong (plesent) hops aroma. The hops provide the perfect balance to the alcohol (9%). There is a delicious citrus flavour, and all over I think my new favourite beer!

500mL bottle from Platinum Liquor.

Pours a chrome colour with nice head and real nice looking lacing.

Smell is potently citric. Lots of guava and tropical flavours ride out on a great malt backdrop. Very well integrated, reminiscent of highly regarded (and fresh) US (D)IPAs. The hop profile reminded me a little bit of Stone's Enjoy By, but I actually think it's better balanced in this beer.

Taste is kinda like...a big citrus bomb...an eminently drinkable tangello and orange, with more tropical flavour. Exceedingly crushable. Goes down like a tropical nectar. Often I complain about sweetness in beers- there's a sweetness to it but it seems perfectly poised- it's present at the front but largely gone by the back, which make it more drinkable. Also the sweetness excellently balances the moderate and not unpleasant alcohol, and hop bitterness. Decently bodied, clash of tropical fruits, malt and bitterness.

This would have to be the best Southern Hemisphere DIPA I've had by a substantial margin. This could compete against the big boys. Alcohol is excellently concealed also.

Crikey! This is quite something.

Pale copper colour, with a fairly pungent, grassy hops aroma. The flavour is dominated by an intense green tea astringency, but with the benefit of plenty of tropical fruit, citrus, passionfruit, pine resin and pale malt flavours making it a complex brew with plenty of impact. The balance of the astringency and the sweet fruitiness makes you keep coming back for more, despite the full hops assault on the taste buds.

Impressive.

500ml bottle into a Teku.

Old gold colour, white foam on top fades quickly to half a finger and leaves a little lacing.

Smells more dank to start with then when I've had this previously. Still lots of grapefruit and pineapple as the dankness recedes. Fruit salad mix there as well. Still its the best smelling hoppy beer from this hemisphere.

Grapefruit taste with a little orange and pineapple. Decent amount of malt coming through as well.

Full bodied. Seems to interchange between bitter and sweet very well. Certainly doesn't give away its higher abv much.

Always a joy to drink. Liberty do hoppy pale ales and the various derivations very well. Could easily demolish this in 15 mins or could sit on it and appreciate the lovely aroma for far longer.

Nice bright golden hue with a slight hop haze. Tight offwhite head. Good head retention.

Intensely hoppy aroma. Quite citrusy but also a ton of earthy notes. Good.

Massive bitterness and malt. Nice citrus. Lots of alcohol. Well built.

Medium full body with moderate carb. Good.

A very good IIPA. The hips are a little smart but it works well.
