In the spirit of traditional Belgian farmhouse ales, Saison Blue is brewed mostly from malted barley but with sizable contributions from regional ingredients (traditionally wheat, spelt, or buckwheat). In our case, we happen to use blue corn and blue agave nectar. It is then lightly dry-hopped with American and European hops for a bright, herbal and floral finish. To us, it represents a link between old-world brewing traditions and new-world processes and ingredients. At the end of the day, this beer is bone dry, light bodied and quite refreshing, but features a spicy, complex flavor and aroma profile.

Picked up a 16 oz can from Kings Beer & Wine 1-16-20 for $2.39. Canned in 2019 (smudged); consumed 4-21-20.
Beer poured golden with a very nice white head that has some great hang time.
Nose is nice, a hint of barnyard funk and horse blanket notes.
Taste follows the nose, a hint of turning of the beer going on with the funk and horse blanket. Finishes with a nice hop balancing that leaves a little herbal prick on the pallette, 5/10 on my bitterness scale.
Mouthfeel is very good and authentic as the saison yeast strain makes this a light and very refreshing sipper.
Overall this is a nice saison, a style not seen in the southwest very often, and nicely done! The price is very nice. I could dig having this for a late spring and summer refreshing beer!

Excellent saison that gets the Belgian yeast profile spot on and complements it with a perceptible influence of blue corn. Sure, it's not super traditional, but it's super tasty, and that's good enough for me.

Poured a cloudy golden color with a thin ring of white head. Quite nice looking and true to the style. Scents of apricot, white pepper, peach, fainter orange and lemon aromas with slight sour and acidic aromas present as well. A good, classic saison aroma that leans towards the fruity side of the style. Taste begins pleasantly sour, with flavors of lemon, with a hint of floral hops. Moves in a still lightly sour flavor, with a stronger medium-low floral hop flavor and a white peppery spiciness, with very faint hints of apricot. The finish is dry with a white pepper spiciness, some moderate floral hop bitterness and a grainy malt character. Aftertaste is white pepper, floral hops and grainy malt. Mouthfeel is light bodied, highly carbonated, effervescent and drying. A good, classic, true to form mouthfeel. Overall this is an excellent saison that hits all the parts of the style I love the most. It's flavorful, wild and refreshing and well worth trying.
