Pours very dark brown with a lasting creamy tan head. Plenty of lacing sticks.

The smell is of dark bread - along the pumpernickel type, roasted coffee, earthy spicing.

The taste is of sweet dark malts. Chocolate, anise, and rich roasted espresso mix wonderfully. Rich and robust. A hint of alcohol comes through, which adds to the complex layers. It finishes with a roasted earthy, black coffee bitterness.

It is rich and creamy. Malt and well-fitting carbonation level give it a smooth texture. A hearty, but not too thick, feel.

A great, unique, dark wheat ale. The coffee and malt make love together with enough roast and just a hint of earthy hops to make it well-balanced. Wonderfully made and certainly enjoyable!

Offhand I'm not sure I've had another Imperial Black Wheat. The coffee flavor dominates and that is fine with me! Very drinkable coffee flavored beer - glad I have more in the fridge!

Had on tap at a Milwaukee beer festival last summer. Lovely coffee aroma (from Alterra, a great Milwaukee roaster) with a flavor that doesn't overwhelm, this is a wonderful variation on their already-terrific Baaad Boy wheat. Pours nicely too, even on a chilly day.

This is an imperial black wheat infused with a custom blend of Sumatran coffee from Alterra (a roaster in Milwaukee).
As opposed to an imperial stout with coffee, the black wheat base really allows the fantastic coffee flavor to shine through this beer. The aroma emanates with a wonderful scent of a bold coffee roast. Through the first sip you get some very nice roasty characters along with a fair amount of sweetness. There is a subtle fruitiness that comes forward in the middle of the sip here as well. Finishes with little to no astringency.
Overall, a very unique and delicious coffee beer. Lighter bodied and smoother than most coffee stouts, but also well balanced between the roasty character and the sweetness of the brew.

12 oz bottle poured into a 3 Sheeps pint.
7.7% ABV

A - Clarity is hard to find through this nearly black beer when it's in the pint but rest assured, below the frothy, whipped cappuccino head lies a deceptive beer that looks more ominous that it really is.

S - The best part of waking up is bold, bold, bold Sumatran roasted coffee in your beer! Freshly ground coffee beans arrest the nose and subject it to glorious beatings of dark chocolate chunks, de-bittered black malt and gently lashings of soft wheat.

T - Hello, My Name Is Joe's onslaught of coffee doesn't just stop at the nose, no sir. This beer continues it's Sumatran assault into the flavor where fresh coffee dominates the smooth chocolate and wheat undertones bringing that familiar breakfast-time taste to the forefront of the brain.

M - What with it's bountiful wheat profile-n-all, Hello, My Name Is Joe is creamy smooth and medium-light bodied making it deceptively dark and quite easy to drink, even at nearly 8%. I hate to say it but I believe I told you so.

O - Well hello there, Joe. I feel like I should have poured you into a ceramic mug because you're damn near coffee! This 3 Sheeps seasonal offering screams freshly ground, freshly brewed coffee through and through, so much so in fact, it's hard to detach the mind from the bean long enough to admire it's gently wheat and balanced roasted malt flavor. If the beer smells this good, I can't even imagine how fantastic the brewhouse must smell on Joe brew day! If it's straight-up coffee you're looking for in a beer, look no further.

poured 12oz bottle into a snifter.

A - Deep, rich dark coffee brown with a dirty cream 1.5 finger head. Excellent retention, thick collar, and beautiful lacing.

S - Sensational aromas of rich pressed coffee, espresso, and dark chocolate. Notes of malts, caramel, and buttered wheat toast are also present.

T - Decidant dark chocolate, fresh brewed coffee, espresso and caramel. The finish has a buttered wheat toast flavor. This is really nice if you are into coffee beer.

M - Wow, this has a medium body but is incredibly rich, smooth, and silky.

O - A phenomenal beer from 3 Sheeps. In a blind taste I would bet anyone would think they are drinking a coffee stout. Only the finish may give it away if you really have a developed palate. Coffee is big and bold in this beer. Highly recommend it!
