This is an imperial black wheat ale infused with a custom Sumatran blend of coffee from Alterra, a roaster out of Milwaukee.

Pours a deep rooty black with almost no head; a thin ring forms and sticks around.

Actually a lot more wheat in the nose than I expected. Dark wheat, licorice, and light spicy coffee (black pepper). Slight lactose as well.

Flavor is way too alcohol forward. Fusel alcohol followed by, stroop, black pepper, coffee, and then finally a very nice sweet, creamy dark wheat finish. Breaths are of light pepper, coffee and cream.

Feel is medium bodied, heavily carbonated, and dry and roasty on the finish.

Overall, 3 Sheeps' Joe isn't bad, in fact it's quite good. I'd call this a cross between a coffee dark wheat ale and a doppelbock. Dial down the alcohol a bit and it would be super enjoyable.

Unknown vintage; drank 12/31/14 @ the Yarchives.

Poured from a bottle into a glass.

Brown/black hue.

Big dark tan head; nice lace.

Pepper heat & black coffee nose.

Medium thick, creamy mouthfeel.

Creamed coffee flavor up front; mild pepper heat in the finish. Simple, drinkable; instantly forgettable.

L: pour thick and balck
A: nice coffee for an ale
T: like the nose, nice coffee. Not bitter, but not sweet. I wish it was a richer and deeper coffee, but this isn't a stout.
F: smooth, easy drinking, fairly thick too.
O: a very nice coffee ale if you want something coffee but lighter than a stout

Pours a dark brown color with khaki colored head. Coffee, dark roasted coffee, light cocoa, and some bread notes on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium to full bodied. Finishes with roasted coffee and bread.

Taste: Deep dark semi sweet malts, dark bread, complex, dry coffee finish, hint of chocolate malts and dark fruits as well. Big roasted coffee nose. Black opaque with a tan tall foamy head with a decent lattice. Full body, good after dinner meal.
