Alone in his laboratory one stormy night, a madman crossed an imperial stout with pumpkin to create this fine frankenbrew. How good is it? Well, scary good.

First pumpkin beer for me
Pours a clear dark black with a large tan head
Rich stout and sweet pumpkin aroma
Subtle chocolate, and stronger pumpkin, beautiful mix when just under room temp
Pretty light but creamier body for a stout/pumpkin ale mix
Still a favorite seasonal of mine

Okay. Could definitely use more pumpkin flavor. It’s there, but not very strong. Could also have more stout characteristics. Extremely light body. Feels like they stopped somewhere along the line in making a stout.

Pours an effervescent scarlet tinged chestnut with a thumb of tan head. Below average head retention & lacing
S: All spice, nutmeg, cocoa showing up once warm
T: Follows the nose, squashyness, cinnamon & dryness up front. More of the same as this warm, some all spice as well, a little cocoa sneaks in as well. Finishes very dry, with cocoa, cinnamon, & all spice
MF: Medium body, low carbonation, thins out as it warms
Not bad for what this is, a stiffer malt backbone would've worked better for me

Not a strong smell but a little dark chocolate and a little pumpkin.
It's dark chocolate taste is muted a bit by a big pumpkin taste. Its got some spice too.
It's got a medium mouthfeel and a small amount of carbonation. The finish is almost entirely pumpkin and a little bitterness.
This is very good. Sweet, pumpkin and bitter. Overall I give it a 4.5 out of 6.

A: Pours a very dark brown - nearly black - with a nice tan head that fades fairly quickly.
S: Baking spices jump off the nose immediately and powerfully, with cinnamon and clove the most prominent among them. A deep chocolate note follows in tandem. A hint of molasses and maybe some dark fruit linger for a brief moment at the end.
T: Rich chocolate hits first, with the spices coming in shortly after and sticking around well through the aftertaste. Slightly roast and breadiness. Certainly sweet, though not nearly as saccharine as some similar brews.
M: Surprisingly light given the purported style. Far more pumpkin ale than stout. It's a long finish - the spices stick around forever.
O: It's a pleasant enough beer. Spices are a bit heavy-handed for me and the light mouthfeel means it doesn't have the sort of dessert-y quality that might help to lend more backbone to the spice character. It won't supplant any of my favorite dark pumpkin/fall ales, but I enjoyed it.

Poured cold from a 12-ounce can into a glass skull. Cola-colored body, with a tan head and lots of blood-orange highlights. So far, so good. Not much on the nose or palate until this gets close to room temperature. That's when things really start to pop. Notes of chocolate, cinnamon, and vanilla begin to come through on the aroma. These are present on the palate as well, with some alcohol burn thrown in for good measure. Rather silky mouthfeel, as I have noticed with other pumpkin beers. Quite a bit of tart cherry lingers on the finish. This one gives you a warm feeling all over. Just the thing for a brisk Hallowe'en night.

pours midnight brown body with tall frothy foam tan head that has moderate retention and leaves small patches of lacing behind as it settles to a bayou of patchy foam with a defined bubble halo
smells like fall. chocolate, roasted caramel, baked spices, rich pumpkin bread malt, and funky blackstrap molasses
taste is set up appropriately by the nose - sweetness is dialed down, baking spices are in full swing, smoky roasted caramel chocolate malts are more full and dark-fruit-lush with the pumpkin bready malt spread out comfortably throughout.
moderate carbonation begets a lighter body than expected (slightly watered down feeling) and betrays a robust flavor profile. bright body balanced by smooth flavors and a short but slight dry finish. feels more porter than stout.
overall:
this is hardly a "stout" by comparative standards, and honestly less of a "pumpkin beer" than other contemporaries. think of it as a thoroughly layered and complicated pumpkin bread flavored porter ant that may have adjusted my expectations properly. all that said, it's enjoyable, definitely pumpkin related, definitely chocolate/malty forward, and reminds me straight up of my favorite time of year. bonus points for the 6.66% abv.
i see you, Ravenclaw. 4-something points.
