English Pale Ale |  4.00% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
Style Summer Ale, this tail-wagger’s already fetched a real name for itself in competition. Our premium barley rolls over with domestic and imported Golding hops for a delicate bitterness and cold, wet nose.

Beer #56 in my great Utah Brew Hunt.

This beer smells like every other boring, bland, and uneventful "craft" beer I have ever had. Unfortunately, it's flavor profile is very much along the same lines. There is nothing interesting about this beer, besides the fact that it has alcohol in it and will get you at least mildly buzzed. And for me, that is hardly enough to rescue an utterly boring beer. Lame.

P.S. How is this an English Pale Ale? Shouldn't it be a blonde ale?

12oz bottle poured in a pint glass

Appearance - clear golden color, with a 1 in head that disappears quickly. No lacing at all.

Smell - Slight hop and citrus aroma. Very faint.

Taste/Mouthfeel - Slight sweet malt flavor, very light mouthfeel, with hop flavor that puts this beer slightly out of whack. Not very balanced.

Drinkability - Pretty good, considering to the low ABV. Excessive carbonation lowers it just a tad.

12oz bottle

App: light amber with a 1 finger head. Slight haze. Minimal lacing.

Smell: Sweet caramel is dominant, much more than I would expect for a beer this color. Undertones of piney american hops.

Taste: Greeted by a sweet, light malt. A moderate grassy hop profile with slight hints of pine. Ends with a huskiness that begs you to have more.

Light medium body. Fine, crisp carbonation.

Other than the smell, it's a wonderful brew.

Love the name...but the beer was so so. The color was more yellow than golden. The color was clear with no head. The scent carried a slight hop character, but nit much else. The taste was dominated by hop and grain...not much else. Was not very smooth and unlike other Golden ales that I have had. Overall this beer was so so and would not be near my first choice to drink.

This was the 2nd time I've had Chasing Tail Golden Ale. The first was on tap in Park City, UT in 2004. I thought it was great back then and was pleasantly surprised when they started distributing to So. Cal.

The color isn't so golden, as there is a tinge of orange. Not much head to speak of with agressive pour and dissipates quickly. Minimal lacing.

The aroma is a faint but pleasant boquent of english hops. This site says American Pale ale but I think they are brewing in the style of an English Pale Ale.

The taste is dominated by english hop bitterness and taste, but not as much as your normal APA.

Overall I think this is an good ENGLISH PALE ALE, but not a good american pale ale. I would recommend it under the style of EPA.

Wonderful looking golden yellow beer with a white ring of head. A decent amount of carbonization that you can see rising.

Smell is low but there with a little hop to it.

The taste was smooth but a bit of a bite to it. The hops were there with the carbonization. that Carbon would tingle the throught like a soda. Not to bad considering the low 3.5%.

they do an amazing job with what they have to work with...

On another note the place is really cool. I was in town from boise and thought it was great. food looked good but I didn't taste any.

6 pack of 12 oz bottles ($7.99?) purchased at BevMo in Redlands, CA. in November 2006.

Pours a slightly hazy/cloudy golden with a minimal white head and minimal carbonation in an Imperial Pint glass.

Aroma is "beer". Musty sharp hops and non-descript malts. Nothing bad, just nothing that reaches out to me.

Flavor is predominantly a sharp (but not strong or overpowering) hop on top of slightly sweet malts. Actually has a surprising amount of flavor considering the low ABV. Because of this, it's a little thin.

Reasonable for a light version of the style, a nice low alcohol alternative. But not up with the classic versions of the style.

a: billed as an English Summer ale at the time of my visit, this golden ale is served with a chunky meringue head over a hazy straw colored beer, good retention and lace

s: plain biscuits and dried apricot, lightly sweet with herbal, tealike hops

m: negligible carbonation and a light-medium body, delicate

t: served just barely on the cool side, flavors of pale English barley give biscuits and hay that carry into the finish, delicate herbal hop flavors, mild bitterness

d: easily sessionable

pint at the brewery nearly a year ago, review entered directly from notes taken in some SLC indy rag

The beer pours a slightly hazy golden orange with a smallish white head that settles quickly, leaving the lace to forms a thin sheet. Nose is lightly sweet malt aroma, with a touch of earthiness, start has a fair malt presence, top is light to medium in feel. Finish has a stinging acidity, malt sweet with a little hops and of course the 4 percent ABV does not produce much bite, nonetheless these are finely crafty beers, that are perfect session beers, and besides they give my liver a chance to regenerate after several big ABV Dogfish Head beers. lol

12 Fl Oz bottle, drank 6th May 2010 inside my cabin outside Bryce Canyon after a day of hiking.

This beer was poured into my plastic toothbrush holder (that's all I had) and it looked fine, a lovely golden colour, clear and bright.

The aroma was weak, some hop smells, but not much of anything.

I thought the body and flavours were thin, I know the beer is only 4%ABV, but I was expecting more taste than what was in the bottle.

A little disppointing if I'm honest.

This is one of the better local Salt Lake City beers and thankfully it can be found in many bars and restaurants throughout the state. Salt Lake valley grocery stores, especially Smith's, will often carry this beer as well.

Chasing Tail pours a rich, deep straw color with a hint of murkiness. The head, at least on my pour, was nothing impressive. The smell and taste are very malty and a the yeast is noticeable. It finishes dry. Deconstruction aside, this is one enjoyable beer to drink and it could easily work as a session beer. A favorite of mine.

Clear gold colored beer with a small white colored head.

Smells of toasted grain and soapy hop scent. Herbal bitter smell. Not that aromatic a beer.

Starts out with a mild seltzer water taste. Mildly sweet taste. Little bit of caramel and a lot of toasted grain. Tastes like a lager really. Quite a light flavor.

Mouthfeel is light.

Overall an OK beer but it is pretty light.

Acquired via trade from Wasatch, so a big "Thank you" goes out to him.
Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a cloudy and very pale yellow color with a very thin white head that fades almost instantly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The smell is very weak overall. I found it difficult to pick up much of anything, but there was a little bit of citrus, malt and hops.

T: The taste is a little fruity with lemon and grapefruit flavors along with some clove spice and hops. The malt character is very thin, but the after-taste is a little sweet.

M: Crisp and very smooth, light-to-medium body, medium-to-heavy carbonation, clean finish.

D: Tasty, goes down very easily, not filling at all, with the low ABV this one is a perfect choice when you want something light.

16oz. can thanks to BigJTrucker

Pours a clear golden color with a fluffy white head that thins. Thick lacing on the glass.

Aroma is quite lite with mild malty and grainy tones and a faint promise of hops. Slightly fruity as it warms.

Taste is bland city. Very light malty taste with a slight graininess. Very faint hop flavor and just the slightest bitterness. Finishes clean and even more bland than it began.

Thin body, well carbonated.

This was indeed easy to drink, as it there is absolutely nothing to it. Would be OK for a lawnmower beer on a scorching hot day. Otherwise, this beer is snooze city.
