Pours a nice deep amber sort of a colour, looks nice... looks like it will be a bit richer in flavor judging the colour. But colour can be deceiving, and so is the smell. The smell is pretty awesome coming off of this little fella. Smells like a nice, spicy pumpkin pie. And when I say pumpkin pie... I fucking mean it! It is pie to the nose.

Upon tasting, yeah, not so much. Look and smell are both quite deceiving as to what this beer will taste like. It isn't that it tastes bad but it just does not match up. It has a nice pumpkiny taste, little bit of pumpkin spices (nutmeg, bit of cinnamon, etc.) Has a very mild sweetness but a fair amount of subtle earthiness all the way through. The earthiness for me seems to be what saves it. A pleasant earthy malt that helps hold up and give the rest of the beer a steady balance.

I will say this as well, Wasatch is quality. I have never had a beer that had just poor taste or was noticeably made with apparent bad ingredients. When you buy a Wasatch beer you are certainly assured a beer of quality. This doesn't mean it will blow your mind, but it is quality.

On that note, this beer is 4% abv, reaching a robust pumpkin ale with this low of alcohol content does seem very difficult. But for what it is it was done pretty well considering. Obviously I do have other favorite pumpkin ales, but if I were to see this next to Buffalo Bill's or Shipyard, it would be no contest... Wasatch all the way.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on December 25, 2013.

The color is mostly orange with a lasting white head and a foggy appearance.

The aroma is of vague pumpkin with nutmeg, clove, brown sugar and biscuit.

The body is light to medium.

The taste is rather bland. I do pick up the toasted biscuit and spice character of a typical pumpkin ale but it seems to just sit there with no excitement.

Poured into a shaker pint. Bottled on 8/8/13.

Barely any off-white foam produced by the pour, just a ring around the edge of the glass for coverage. Body is the color of maple syrup with copper highlights. Some streams of bubbles in there as well.

This pumpkin, right out of the bottle cold, smelled astringent with notes of fake pumpkin spicing, much like you find in a craft store when October rolls around. Letting it sit and breathe for ten minutes produces warmer scents of cinnamon, vanilla, some clove, and the lightest impression of a graham cracker-like malt. Much better spiced and sweet profile!

Palate has a syrupy vanilla note that is far too big for this pumpkin beer. It clashes with the spicing, that comes off much sweeter on the palate, still notes of clove and cinnamon. A graham-cracker, wheat bread malt also appears at the swallow. If that cloying, syrupy flavor was not so prominent, the beer would be all the better for it.

Not much to say for the feel, finishes a little dry and is definitely watery. Just enough carbonation to pass it off as a medium-light body.

Wasatch Pumpkin takes the drinker all over the place when it comes to flavors, scents, and general impressions. While it is certainly much improved by letting it warm up and breathe a little, the cloying and syrupy vanilla-like flavor on the palate is too much. The spicing is fine, just needs to reign in that flavor. I would not search this pumpkin ale out again.

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, orange-brown in color, hazy, high carbonation

Smell: wheat, cinnamon and clove

Taste: bread, pie crust, clove, and pumpkin pulp

Mouthfeel: sweet but not overly so, medium carbonation, light bodied

Overall: Super light pumpkin beer. Tastes very pulpy. I would get this one again if I wanted a pumpkin beer and did not want an alcohol bomb. I think this one has its special niche.

I had this beer at The Happy Gnome, and it was one of nearly 15 pumpkin beers on tap at the time. Wow, I love that place! The beer has a pleasant orange hue with a fairly light head that fades quickly. Hints of ginger, nutmeg and clove in the aroma, along with a subtle earthiness. The flavor mirrors the aroma nicely, with a bit of true pumpkin flavor and light spicing. Balance is key for these beers and I think they have done a wonderful job of showcasing the pumpkin and the spices without overdoing it. The mouthfeel is a bit low due to lower gravity, but not thin. Also, this is one of the only pumpkin beers I've tried that I'd actually have a second pint of. Good job Wasatch!

A little haze on the attractive orangey amber brew. Pours with plenty of foam in the tall glass. A faint hint of spice in the nose. Light body, of course.

Some actual pumpkin flavor makes this seem maltier than it really is. A touch of Kandy Korn. Mostly it's a club soda taste but the vegetable yammy flavor, even though faint, provides a little interest. Sllight bitterness but no actual hop flavor. The spices are fortunately subtle.

I like this better for being less spicy and obnoxious than a lot of pumpkin beers. Actually not a bad solution to the four percent problem. From the 12 oz bottle purchased at Emigration Market in Salt Lake City.

Pours a copper color with a bit of sediment. The white froth is short lived. Aroma of pumpkin, spice and sweet malts. Cinnamon, clove and allspice are evident.

In the flavor, pumpkin pie, vanilla, nutmeg, clove and other spices. Big pumpkin and well integrated spices. More pumpkin pie like than most. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation and a mild dry spiciniess.

Overall, this was very much like a liquid pumpkin pie.
