12 oz bottle
A: Aggressive side pour into a tulip. Cloudy amber in color. 1 finger of head. Quickly receding, Bubbles from foam to 1/8th inch. Small amount of sticky lacing.
S: Citrusy, grapefruit, hops, pine, pale malt
T: Very nice. Follows the same notes as smell plus some lemon. Very nice hop profile.
M: Crisp and refreshing. Slight bit of alcohol.
O: A very good beer. Very drinkable. Nice hop profile but not too strong. A good way to introduce someone to an IPA and a nice price point. Well balanced.

Poured a slight hazed lighter amber shade with a very nicely defined egg shell colored one finger head that held for a real long time.Light pine and overripe tangerine aromas over top of a biscuit malt base,a lush mouthfeel, almost creamy in texture. Not a big hop wallop on the palate, fruity hops mixed with a firm lightly sweet malt base. Its not a big citric/piney hop onslaught but its a pretty fair ipa, drinkable with a silky feel.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #61 (Feb 2012):

LOOK: Hazy, pale amber

SMELL: Hop resin, spice, leafy, pipe tobacco, piney, light caramel, yeast, biscuity

TASTE: Smooth, hop forward, grainy, leafy, vegetal, spicy, oily, bitter, toasted biscuits, yeast, pineapple, passion fruit, hoppy finish

What was expected has been given. This IPA is all about old-school balance, without forgetting its hoppy roots. Fondness grows after each sip, followed by mourning as our glasses empty. A damn solid IPA, one that we wish we had more of.

Notes from 5/23/11; bottled 4/12/11

A - Pours a clear honey color with two fingers of craggy off-white head. Head has good retention. Nice.

S - Floral and citrus hops. A bit od grass and faint caramel malt.

T - Initial hop burst is nice and bitter with lots of grapefruit. Midway, it transitions to a slightly watery maltiness. Maintains a lingering bitterness that is noticeable but not very strong. A bit of tea.

M - Starts promising but turns thin after the initial hop bitterness. Decent, but nothing more.

O - Decent, easy drinking IPA. Unfortunately, the middle and end don't live up to the initial promise.

12 oz bottle, best by 7/16/14. Pours slightly hazy golden orange with a big meringue white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet bready malts with some grassy hops.

The flavor is sweet toasted malts with some grassy bitterness and a little fruit. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, it's very subdued and sweet and grassy.

Thanks to Wasatch for this one...a great BA.
Pours a clear, pale orange with a full finger of bright white had after an agressive pour. Produces some thin lacing as I work my way thru the pint.
A gentle aroma of sweet malt and floral hops...well balanced in the nose.
Taste is great...again, very well balanced hop to malt ratio and while it is not a hop bomb, it is not lacking for the style. Hops become a bit fruitier as it warms...
Finish is clean, the mouthfeel is thin yet crisp and the offering is insanely drinkable.
Very cool to try this one...thanks again John.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a clear yellow orange with a white head. The aroma is very hoppy with a good amount of pine. The flavor is pine and orange hops with a little bit of malt to keep things balanced. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Clear gold pour with a decent white head. Aroma is hoppy but flat. Almost metallic. So is the taste. Some hops, mostly peppery, and some bland pale malt with a metallic finish. This site says its an English IPA. Sadly, I think English IPA's ave more body and spice than this one.

Golden and copper colored beer, average white head to it. Mild hop aroma, lending itself closer to grapefruit, more caramel in the aroma than anything, thought this might be a malt bomb-esque beer. Born on date gets it a bump in the appearance.

Grassy hop taste, nicely subdued, bitterness kept respectably in check, really does come about as a balanced ipa that is not a diss on the beer.

A little pricey at $9 a 6er when you can get better and bolder stuff in the style, but not a bad choice when trying to get people into the style or for extreme desert heat.

I found this beer at the Pleasenton BevMo. I was happy to finally see a beer from Utah. And at 6%, a little surprised.

This beer pours a clear, light yellow color, with a thick fulffy, off white head. The head fades very slowly, leaving slight tints of orange in it.

This beer smells equally of grassy, piney, and citrusy hops. It is very well balanced. The aroma is not overbearing at all. I can smell a very slight malty aroma well hidden.

This beer tastes exactly like it smells. A very well balanced grassy, citrus, and piney hop flavor, mixed in with an ever so slight malty sweetness.

This beer is very smooth, and refreshing. It leaves a pleasent hoppy aftertaste. It is carbonated perfectly for the style.

I think this beer would make an excelent session beer. It tastes great. I am actually surprised about that since Utah is not exactly known for their beer. I would make this my every day IPA if I had better access to it.

Poured from an inch or so above the glass gives it a big off white to maybe light tan head above a clear copper golden colored beer.

Big citrus hops nose with a slight bready/grain hint to it, very nice IPA nose.

Light citrus with a slight bitter hint to it, with also a slight almost caramel malt taste coming through. Not as hoppy or as IPA as the aroma would suggest, but still a pretty good taste.

A dry aftertaste with some light citrus hops accents on this medium bodied lightly carbonated beer.

Squatters IPA pours a slightly hazy golden amber body beneath a creamy head of off-white that holds well and leaves some very nice wrinkles and splashes of lace about the glass.

A combination of yeasty fruitiness, sweetish and lightly caramelish malt, and grassy, citrusy, and floral hops greets you in the nose. It's clean, bright, and welcoming!

In the mouth it's smooth with a medium body and a gentle zest on the tongue from its seemingly natural, moderate carbonation.

The flavor is fruity, hoppy, and malty all at once, displaying a great balance. It's remarkably drinkable; offering up some interesting, refreshing fruit at the outset, followed by some grassy, floral, citrusy, lightly piney, and even gently leafy or herbal hops at mid-palate over a bed of gently sweet and lightly caramelish and biscuity maltiness. It's unusual, almost as if German hops had been used, and yet there's also a citrusy character that indicates Cascades...? Intriguing! The bitterness is kept in check, although present, and it finishes dry with a lingering note of tangerine-like fruitiness drizzled here and there with sweet berries; raspy, piney/grassy hops; and a light flicker of sweet caramel. Very nicely done. Quaffable!!!!

this beer was a surprise in a trade (also from wasatch) and i have to tell you, it was much to my delight. What a fantastic beer. it pours a golden/ orange color. it smells amazing. One of the most citrusy scents in a beer that i have experienced. it smells like piney hops and grapefruits. it is very well balanced. the piney hops bite you at 1st finished off with a sweet grapefruit burst at the end. very well crafted!.

i indeed am very interested in getting my hands on as much of this as i can.

blew my mind , that is all.

The second beer in the six pack is the IPA and I believe it was brewed in the old english traditional sense and not like a west coaster. The color is copper clear with nice white head. The scent is has a subtle hop character, but is missing pine and citrus. The taste is very bitter. Its starts very crisp with hops, but then tapers to sour and bitter aftertaste that clings to pallete. This, for me, would be a tough beer to session, one is enough. Its not a bad beer, but it's not great....worth a try though.

Thanks to abankovich for this one.

Appearance: It pours a very clear, light bronze color. Head is foamy white and about two fingers deep. It patiently stuck around for a while and left a spotty lacing stuck to the glass.

Smell: The nose is dominated by citrus sweetness and earthy notes. Citrus scent is comprised of light grapefruit, pineapple, and lemon. It appears to have a decent malt presence consisting of mostly caramel malts. Hops are notable, but are floral and grainy. A strong biscuity aroma wraps it up.

Taste: Grapefruit and pinepple flavors kick it off and give it a sweet flavor. They're quickly followed by lively hops that are decently bitter and earthy. The floral variation provides a grainy earthy flavor. Caramel malt sweetness really balances it out well. A yeasty or biscuity flavor comes on strong late and sticks to the palate. It finishes dry and slightly sweet.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability: It's light bodied, crisp, and smooth. Carbonation is very good. Very solid feel and good drinkability. It goes down easy and, by my standards, abv is just right for taking down a few of these.

Squatters developed a solid English IPA with this one. I could make a few comments on how I think this beer could be improved, but that would probably end up being a tutorial on how to make this an American IPA. I prefer what American IPAs bring to the table. But, this is a very solid beer in its own right and pulls off the English style pretty well. Definitely worth a try.

A: Golden copper hue with a full, bubbly head-1.5 finger with decent retention; lacing is intricate and even throughout glass

S: Nice hop presence up front; the hops sit nicely on top of sweet maltiness; citrus, pine, grapefruit, and subtle wet grains are all prevalent

T: Hop bitterness up front with plenty of grapefruit and pine; a decent sweet and grainy malt backbone

F: A tad thin but decent overall

D: A drinkable and pretty darn good IPA--I would categorize this more of an American IPA than an English but nonetheless it's a good beer
