If you're going to sin, sin big. With 8% alc/vol and a creamy richness, this brew has developed a serious cult following. Imagine that - a cult following in Utah?!

Poured a dark orange color beer with an average size head which quickly dissipated. It smelled of burnt caramel, brown sugar, honey, yeast. It tasted of wheat, honey, tea, yeast, toffee and some malt. Can't taste the alcohol , generally this can be good or bad, in this case it is bad because the beer just seem slightly flat with a weird aftertaste. Doesn't stay true to its style.

From a can born on 11/8/23. Medium brown color with tan bubbles. Roasted malt aroma. Medium body with good carbonation. Caramel malt flavor. A good doppelbock!

12oz can. Best by date stamp on can bottom is smudged for the month, sometime in 2023.
Muddy brown colored body. One finger of khaki colored head. Leaves spots and threads of lacing.
Aroma is slightly sour toasted brown bread. Malts with raisin.
Taste is sweet but no caramel or toffee; the sweetness is more in a dark fruit vein. Lots of dark bread malt for flavor. Lingering sweet malt in the aftertaste.
Slightly less than medium mouth feel. Higher ABV% is well hidden. Good carbonation.
To me there is more sweet than rich in the flavors. Strays a little from the toasted bread motif.

Can purchased at The Wasatch Brew Pub in the Salt Lake City International Airport. Not on draft because of archaic Utah beer laws that don’t allow anything on draft over 5% ABV.
This one pours a nice golden brown color, with a small white head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like caramelized honey, breadiness, some light dark fruit, a touch of spicy hops, and molasses.
This is pretty excellent, and feels just about spot on to my palate. There’s a rich and deep malt character here, caramelized, bready, and just slightly fruity, with a touch of very warming bitterness – maybe booze, maybe hops, whatever it is, it works well.
This is creamy, rich, and quite drinkable.
I enjoy this quite a bit – it feels like the dictionary definition of the style.

Pours a muted brown with amber undertones
Boozy and caramelly nose
Good caramel sweetness, strong malt and the plum really shines through in the aftertaste
Heavy body, but not syrupy

12 oz can at Wasatch Brew Pub in Park City, UT, into a can looking logo glass. Pours deep amber, loose foam that didn’t make it all the way thru the drink.
Smells like dark caramel, medium roasty.
Taste is sweet and caramelly, plum, raisin, not a long finish at all. 8% ABV is present but not overwhelming.
Feel is medium thickness, low carbonation.
Overall, it’s good, far from great. But nice to get a can from the source.

Semi-clear dark brown with a short khaki blanket.
Semisweet date meets toasted pumpernickel and so on. In an attempt to be economical with my words while on vacation, this is solidly on point and quite satisfying.
The medium body has a rounded crispness and finishes semi-dry, developing a touch of tobacco and roast as it warms.

Color consistent with class. ABV at 8.0% consistent. Solid beer for class but nothing noetworthy and kind of lackluster. Good beer but nothing exceptional and no threat to German best in class (Ayinnger, Spaten, etc).

I picked up some of this at the DABC. I bring this up, because I’m hoping the poor storage of beers by them made my experience less than enthusiastic. The taste was a bit on the cider side and I really didn’t enjoy it.

Picked this up at the DABC, in Utah you can’t get it at a normal store. I was nicely surprised by the flavor, mainly because didn’t know how to pin it down. Still don’t. Thought it was a little boozy like other reviewers stated. But got used to it. One reviewer said notes of raisin, I’m going with that flavor at the source of that unidentifiable taste. I think it’s a thicker mouth feel, a little dense, but not syrupy. I’ll say that I make sure to pick up a six pack when I go for bottles of something else. A nice surprise flavor-wise. Kudos Wasatch Brewery.
