I bought this single on the basis of these overall scores. I wasn't even attracted to the label or the brand, but I like witbiers, so I thought I'd give it a shot...

Serving style : 12 oz bottle poured into glass.

Appearance (3.25) : Aggressive pour yields a three fingered tightly knit creamy cap on top of an unusually transparent golden body (for a wit). Where's the sediment? The haze? Odd. Points docked for that. Leaves a little lacing around the glass.

Aroma (3.25) : Orange candy, a bowl of cling peaches, and a wall of faint wheat. Behind that is a little cilantro, pepper, cinnamon, and vanilla ice cream. Smells like a cloying dessert. Am I being unnecessarily negative? I dunno.

Taste (2.75) : Are you serious? This wit sucks. It's sour, watery, and the only thing saving it is the creamy orange candy creme saver finish at the very end. No wheat flavor. I should have known what to expect from the crystal clear appearance. This wit fails terribly. Ugh.

Mouthfeel (3.5) : Creamy, medium bodied, with some stinging carbonation somewhere in there. Ends semi-dry.

Overall (2.93) : Far from good, this is a poor interpretation of a wit bier. Pathetic, even. I have been dissatisfied with most of Wasatch Brewery's beers but this one is among the worst for its style. I'll probably finish it but just because I hate to see beer go down the drain.

Utah witbier, from a 12 ounce bottle. On to the beer:

There's a little haze in this pale yellow beer, topped with a half-inch of head which retains modestly. A few spots of lace cling to the walls of the glass. The aroma is that of a classic witbier; spices, coriander, and a kiss of orange.

The base of the beer brings sweet creamy oats to the palate, which absorbs a zest of sweet orang and just a bit of coriander. Although its alcohol hits higher per style at 6% ABV, it's quite tasty and refreshing. It also maintain a light (albeit "meaty") body and a light touch of crisp bubbles.

This is a pleasing ale that gets the appetite juices flowing. Too bad I can't get this in California.
