It poured a hazy orange with a little bit of sediment or something floating around with an aroma of hops and some sweet toffee malts. The taste had an initial strong vanilla and toffee malt with grapefruit hops that gives way to some piney resinous hops on the back end. The piney hops lingered on my palate but was mellowed and smoothed out by the sweet malts. The Hop Rising was an overall excellent beer with a good creamy mouthfeel and dynamic flavor profile.

Pours a clear orange, with a finger of head, heavy lacing left behind

Smell is orange, alcohol, sweet malt, fruit aroma

Taste is orange, orange, mango, mango, alcohol.. Which is a odd vodka shot like flavor, so not very desirable... But then it redeems itself with lemon and lime, bitter pine and grapefruit with a HUGE sweet malt backbone

Mouthfeel is medium full, very fine carbonation, drying finish, slight alcohol burn.

Here is the thing about this one. If they could up either the malt of hops to kill the alcohol flavor it would be on another level... Frankly when I took the fist sip I said "holy shit this is good!" Then I got the odd vodka alcohol flavor and it killed my happiness. DO not get me wrong this beer is worth your time. Good DIPA here, I will have again for sure, but could be amazing with some minor recipe tweeks.

Hop Rising pours a cloudy golden color, with a small lacing head. There is a harsh malty aroma, with some notes of hops. The taste is slightly hoppy with lots of lime and citrus flavorings. Easy to drink, and very refreshing. Overall its a fruitier and more refreshing IIPA.

I have to say, this beer for being 9% abv, is very smooth. The appearance is awesome with a foamy 1.5 finger head. As far as smell, I didn't really care for the smell that much, it was the least desirable aspect of this beer. Otherwise, this beer is very good. Generally, with this much alcohol for a beer, It is usually sour to me, not this one. It almost tasted like fruit. I'm not much of a reviewer who indicates the different specific flavors, but this one does remind me of apricot and perhaps some pineapple but that may be a stretch. Maybe because I love hops, is why I love this beer. I would say it is a good reflection of a DIPA. Not that the 75 IBUs are extreme, but that is not what DIPA is supposed to be. However, If had to improve the beer, I would pump up the IBUs to about 82 give or take, depending on the sweetness/sourness.

So overall, I would say that this beer deserves to be in the upper echelon of beers. I will buy this again. I need to find out more about the brewery to see anything else they may be proud of. I would love to try this on tap. I doubt it would be near me. Please tell me if anyone ever sees it on tap around the Milwaukee/Chicago area.

On tap. Pours a dark amber color with a foamy beige head. Mild aroma of hops. Taste and texture is very smooth. There is a perfect blend of hops and malts. Leaves a slightly bitter finish. Delicious on-tap as it isn't too simple or complex. Very tasty without being too bitter.
