Cast in a clear, amber/bronze hue, lush, large creamy white head. Looking great.

Aroma: Bitter-sweetness. A whole lot of everything in here. Plenty of fruit, some heat, some spice, pine and grass in places. Big time resiny hop presence. Nice.

Taste: Big bitterness greets us first, blazing the palate, leaving sweet remnants all over the mouth. Malt more than adequately keeps up with the beefed up hop quantity here. Nine percent alcohol in this one, and it starts to show. Sticky malt floor holds it's own, while hops bounce everywhere. Any dyed-in-the-wool hop freak should like this one.

Here's what the brewery tell us about it: "Big hop, big malt, big beer. One of the most aggressive beers ever released in Utah, Hop Rising a double India Pale Ale, clocks in at 75 IBU's and 9% alcohol. We use three different malts to create enough flavor to perfectly balance three varieties of hops, then we dry-hop it; resulting in an amazing two pounds of hops per barrel! Hop lover's dream."

I wouldn't put this up in the far echelons of double IPAs, but it certainly is one of the good ones. Enjoy without reservation.

12oz. bottle into a chalice

Ap- pours a light amber color with a bit of haze and a foamy off white head about 1/2 inch. Head has pretty decent retention

Ar- The usual suspects here...pine, citrus, grass, sweet malt

T- Pretty much exactly the same as the nose but with a slight alcohol presence, nuff said.

M- sticky, medium bodied, good carbonation for this style

O- a solid brew that I get often. It's $9 a six pack and at 9% ABV you get pretty good bang for your buck.

It poured a hazy orange with a little bit of sediment or something floating around with an aroma of hops and some sweet toffee malts. The taste had an initial strong vanilla and toffee malt with grapefruit hops that gives way to some piney resinous hops on the back end. The piney hops lingered on my palate but was mellowed and smoothed out by the sweet malts. The Hop Rising was an overall excellent beer with a good creamy mouthfeel and dynamic flavor profile.

Pours a clear orange, with a finger of head, heavy lacing left behind

Smell is orange, alcohol, sweet malt, fruit aroma

Taste is orange, orange, mango, mango, alcohol.. Which is a odd vodka shot like flavor, so not very desirable... But then it redeems itself with lemon and lime, bitter pine and grapefruit with a HUGE sweet malt backbone

Mouthfeel is medium full, very fine carbonation, drying finish, slight alcohol burn.

Here is the thing about this one. If they could up either the malt of hops to kill the alcohol flavor it would be on another level... Frankly when I took the fist sip I said "holy shit this is good!" Then I got the odd vodka alcohol flavor and it killed my happiness. DO not get me wrong this beer is worth your time. Good DIPA here, I will have again for sure, but could be amazing with some minor recipe tweeks.
