Pours a deep black, nose is of coffee, chocolate, whiskey, oak, and spices.
Head is a nice kaki color, nice and tight, good carbonation on this one.
Taste is Oaky, whiskey, some alcohol, as spiciness I can attribute to the rye. Mouthfeel is on the light side of medium for me. It Coates a bit but doesn't linger.
Over all this a well done ba stout. The barrel character comes out very nicely and isn't to prominent that it controls the base beer.

Don't remember who brought this - think it might have been Ryan. Served in an Half Acre taster glass.
A - Tan foam settles to a thin cap, thicker collar, wisps, and minimal lacing. Body is a nice solid black.
S - Odd - quite smokey, with some soy and umami notes. Not sure if it's that fine Utah whiskey, the licorice root or some sort of smoked malts. Mild coconut from the barrel, and a bit of permanent marker and peat as well. Gets a touch sweeter as it warms up, with more chocolate notes.
T - The taste is super roasty and charry, with oak, whiskey, and minimal sweetness. Earthy licorice, peat, soy, and a bitter espresso finish.
M - Medium body, lower carbonation, with some mild warming alcohol. Chewy and roasty in texture, with some residual stickiness lingering on the palate. On the whole, probably the best thing about the beer.
D - Tastes almost like a Scotch barrel-aged beer in the peaty, smokey, and 'Sharpie' notes. Not really what I'm looking for from this style and I can't tell if it's from the whiskey character or the malt bill.

Sent by a very generous BA from the Salt Lake area. Really excited to try this one as Squatters makes some wonderful stuff. The beer has the right color and foam. Body is ridiculously dark and the head is probably the darkest I have seen. Litterally looks like there is some black in the head. About two fingers which fell to one but made some nice lace. Aroma is weak and on the sour-milk side. Good chocolate and a little tobacco. Fairly simple. The flavor comes back strong and is right up my alley. Nice sweetness with milk chocolate, caramel, and molasses. Very creamy on the mouth but still good carbonation. Very full.
Overall, I loved it once it was in my mouth. The aroma is lacking, but that is more than made up for in the taste. For me it is one of the best RIS out there.

Thanks to mar and thirdeye11 for sharing these bottles.
The beer pours a very dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma has a ton of chocolate and oak, as well as some bourbon and some alcohol. The flavor is very similar. I get some heavily roasted/burnt malt, as well as some bourbon and oak notes. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Appearance: Obsidian body with a fine layer of foam on top. Almost completely opaque - slight translucency around the edges.
Smell: This has a pretty brash whiskey character, though it's not excessively boozy. There's quite a bit of dark fruit in here that's somewhat obfuscated by the barrel, along with charred malt and cocoa. Smells decent, albeit pretty unrefined.
Palate: Whiskey. A lot of it. Dark chocolate, too, and dark fruit. A little vanilla, a little caramel, a lot of warming booze. The finish actually burns slightly. The body is medium, leaning toward thin. There's a good bit of drying oak in the finish along with a mild roasted bitterness.
Overall: Pretty average in a saturated style. A little too boozy and a little too thin, and the flavors feel unrefined, but there's nothing offensive about it.

Pours a nice thick black color, nice carbonation, not much of a head at all, but does leave some nice oil slicks. The nose is malty, with some nice licorice notes, chocolate/toffee, some faint vanilla, very slight whiskey note. The taste is very nice though, malty, sweet, lots of chocolate/toffee, and licorice, not much whiskey like the bottle sez. Full body, ABV is hidden very well, slightly dry finish. A nice brew, but not what I expected it to be.

750ml bottle from the brewery. Into a Squatters mug.
A: pours pitch black with a tan head, about half an inch that fades back to a thin cap. Excellent lacing left behind. Completely opaque. A very nice looking stout.
S: a ton of licorice, chocolate, and whiskey in the nose. Some notes of vanilla and coffee as well, but really a lot of whiskey in the nose. Doesn't really get boozy, but the note of whiskey has a definite booze smell.
T: really an interesting stout. Tons of chocolate and whiskey, a fair amount of dark fruits as well, think raisins and plums. Nice caramel flavor and a decent hoppy bite in there as well. A little more roasted barley/coffee would help this out a touch. I've drank my fair share of high west whiskey and that flavor really stands out. This is still a little young but damn tasty nonetheless.
M: thick body with medium carbonation, the finish is sticky and sweet. I was worried that this might be a little thin or might finish oaky and dry, but it definitely doesn't. Very nice here.
O: a nice whiskey barrel aged imperial stout. Still a little bit young, but if you like whiskey like I do, this is very enjoyable. It will be nice to see how the other bottles age. Nice work Squatters!
