22oz bomber purchased from the brewery, poured into a snifter.

A- Pours a cloudy amber/ orange color with a small amount of off-white head which quickly fades. Lots of sticky lacing noted along the side of the glass as well.

S- Great smelling beer. Lots of citrus notes, including grapefruit and mango, coupled with some piney resinous as well.

T- Starts off rather sweet for a DIPA, with nice caramel malt notes. Then comes the hop hit. The pine seems to shine through more so than the citrus notes, but I taste both sides well.

M- Medium bodied, well carbonated, nice and bitter with a dry finish. The alcohol is noted of course at 10% ABV, but it's an easy drinker.

Nice DIPA from these Solemn Oath, I'm excited to try more from this up and coming brewery.

Pours a semi-transparent, dark rusty copper orange, with a lively off-white finger of foam that dissipates rapidly. There is a noticeable amount of sediment, though not off-putting.

Dark fruit, candied malts, burnt sugar, and some subtle pine and citrus to note.

Much more citrus in the flavor, resin, fig, grapefruit, orange rind, and some caramel and brown sugar sweetness.

Medium-heavy bodied, light carbonation, citrus and pine resin bitterness, candied malt sweet bomb, and semi-chewy.

Fantastic on tap at the brewery versus bottled. Happy that Solemn Oath is putting out this part of the Vikings series. Bottled version lacked the same bouquet and depth of flavor as the kegged set. Possible that the SOB team is still getting a handle on the bottling process.

Appearance: Cloudy light brown/dark orange color. Half a finger of head on the pour which dissipated and was present on the edges of the glass. Light random lacing. Low active carbonation.

Smell: Caramel malt forward front. Accents of molasses mix well with hop tones of grapefruit, tangerines, and pine. Lingering resinous hop aroma throughout. Big malt body dominates this aroma for sure.

Taste: Soft soapy fruitiness and a medium bodied malt greet the palate first. Tones of grapefruit and toffee are prevalent on the body. Malt takes over toward the back end and leaves a cloying grain and caramel flavor on the palate.

Mouthfeel: Malt forward and pretty heavy on the palate. Some piney bitterness is allowed to shine through but malt layers certainly weigh on the drinker. Abv is well hidden.

Overall: If you are a malt forward fan this brew is right up your alley. The hops seem to get hidden behind such a potent malt body. Easy drinking for such a big IPA.

Overall not a bad beer. The bitterness is definitely there for a DIPA but I'm not get any Piney or citrusy aromas/tastes that I would prefer.

Bomber sent from my brother

A- First off, I love the artwork on the bottle. Too many times I feel like artwork does not play into the factor of appearance of a beer. Moving on, the beer pours a light orange with a rim of white head. The beer looks clear, no floaties or chill haze

S- Wow! This has such an amazing nose. I have never had a DIPA that had such citrus notes. Granny Smith apple is at the forefront followed by grapefruit.

T- The pallet was very similar to the nose. Lots of citrus flavors, along with the piney bite of the hops. Well balanced between the two.

M- The mouthfeel was very creamy. The carbonation was perfect and it was smooth as can be.

O- I want more of this. This was fantastic. I had a Hopslam during the same night, and while the Hopslam was 70 days old, this was way better. In many ways. Wonderful, Solemn Oath. Wonderful.

Fresh on tap at their Taproom. Awesome light grapefruit and piney nose. Their best double IPA to date. Rich and sweet caramel malt balanced to near perfection with hops with a resinous bitter quality. A fantastic double double IPA i wish was offered year round.

A: Pours very cloudy and thick, amber/ orange color. Small off-white head that quickly fades.

S: Interesting aroma. A lot of sour smelling citrus notes, grapefruit mango, tangerine, and piney notes as well. A great amount of the caramel too.

T: Pretty sweet and caramel malt notes upfront . Then a wave of pine with following citrus/grapefruit hitting in the back end.

M: Medium bodied, nicely carbonated, not overly bitter and some residual sweetness. Some apparent alcohol but not bad.

O: Nice beer, glad to see them finally bottling. If I were to really nitpick this beer I would say it can improve on its clarity.

Picked up a growler from the brewery, served in a delrium tulip

Dark amber in color with a nice head. Citrusy nose with sweet backbone. Floral taste added with a thinner body makes this beer easily drinkable. A big sweet finish helps balance out the bitterness, which is almost to much, but again is tamed by the sweetness. This is another solid offering by solemn oath. I hope the bottled version cones close to this.

A very cloudy/hazy amber in color, barely a finger of head that dissipated quickly. Smells of sweet malty caramel with slight bit of citrusy hops. The flavor is a bit boozy up front with a bit of sweetness coming from the grain bill, slight burnt-like bitter taste, a bit of citrus, and then a lingering bitterness... Not really much of a defined flavor, this is the least hoppiest dipa I've ever had. Medium body with barely any carbonation, makes this more of a sipper.
I took a gamble with this one. Not sure when it was bottled, but it tastes like an ipa that's past it's prime. Almost barley-wine like, which is cool - but not what I was expecting. I have to say that when I'm spending $11 plus shipping on a bottle, I'd like for it to be fresh. I ant say this was the case, but I also can't guarantee it since there's no date on the bottle. Judging by the flavor and the low carbonation, it's the first thing that pops up in my head.

Appearance is dark and wood-like. would have guessed it to be an old ale.
Nose is roasted malts and oakey.
Taste is just not what I want in an IPA - all malt bomb here, thick for an IPA - definitely thick, malty, bitter dark-candy flavor - but I made it sound too good - its not.
Feel is the worst part - I want it to go away but it won't. stuck on the back of my throat, syrup like cough medicine is what I'm reminded of.
Overall - possibly just not my type of beer, my rating obviously shows that I'm not in the minority at the moment. All malt, no hop, no grapefruit, just strangely dark fruit-barleywine like.

Pours really hazy dark murky burnt orange. Head is thin, about half a finger but retains very nicely.

Smell is pretty good. Tons of caramel malt, maybe some rye. Pretty malt forward with a fair amount of earthy herbal hops upfront and well.

Taste is better then the nose. Loads of sticky semi sweet caramel malt forward along with and almost dry citrusy hop flavor before the deep piney herbal and earthy hop oils and resin set in. Bitterness is relatively mild.

Mouthfeel is great. Tons of sticky malt gives this a moderate body. With all the hoppy oils and resin it gives this a much bigger body. Moderate carbonation cuts through it nicely and leaves it drinkable.
