This is a big brown being offer by Solemn Oath. The beer poured a clear brownish amber with white head. The scent had a maple base with fresh hops that leaned toward pine. The taste was a good mixed between bread and pine needles. The mouthfeel was full in body with ok carbonation. Overall this is good and I would try it again. Proabably could be classified as an India Brown Ale.

22 oz. bottle into a pint glass

A - Beer pours a clear dark brown and mahogany color with moderate carbonation that can be seen clinging to the glass. Head is 1 finger in height and is light tan in color with a bit of frothiness (not really a creamy head). Head dissipates slowly to an isolated rockiness. 4/5

S - Very dark maltiness and caramel are the first notes to grace my nostrils. Dates and dark stone fruit comes out as well as a bit of a floral hoppiness. Light notes of earthy nuttiness and smoke can be smelled as well. 4/5

T - Very nutty flavor throughout with a bit of dark toasted bread and caramel making up the first part of the tasting. Light notes of dates and raisins lead into a slight molasses sweetness. The middle consists of a charred woodiness and cocoa powder with a bit of coriander and peppery spiciness. Grassy and floral hops makes up the very end to the tasting with a lingering bitter finish. 4/5

M - Much lighter than it looks or smells. Medium bodied at best with a moderate carbonation burn throughout. Finishes somewhat dry with a slight lingering dryness. 3.75/5

O - Very complex beer, especially for a Brown Ale. Flavor transitions are easy to follow and combination of flavors is pleasant. The body of the beer doesn't fit with the flavors in my mind but other than that this is a very good beer. Much more sweet than bitter. 4/5

2015 Release (6.6% ABV)
Reviewed on May 4th, 2015
22 Fl. Oz. bottle
Served in a Nonic Pint Glass

Eyes
Poured a clean mahogany body with a nice amber glow. A light tan head formed (roughly half of an inch in thickness), collapsed, and left a sparse amount of lacing.

Nose
Toasted grains. Caramel. Burnt toast. Trace of nut. Tart, roasted tone overall.

Mouth
Heavy hit of toasted malts hit the tongue first. Carmel, toast, and roasted nuts. Sharp notes of coffee, dark chocolate, and charred toast quickly built up, giving this a dry finish. Notes of alcohol broke through every now and then. Medium-bodied. Low/moderate carbonation.

Notes
Amped-up brown ale. Great spread of flavors but too burnt for my liking.

The beer looked fine and appeared to smell like a typical brown ale. The taste was definitely off. I've my share of many brown ales and this tasted like something could have been wrong but wasn't sure. Think for a brown as well. I wouldn't recommend but would try it in bottle or on tap again to compare.
