Served in a Founders All Day IPA shaker pint glass at the Map Room.

My first stop on this particular Chicago jaunt, my first visit to the Map Room (hell yes, indeed!), and my second Solemn Oath brew. Let's dance. This stuff pours a hazy amber-blonde topped by a finger of lightly off-cream-white foam. The nose comprises grapefruit zest, light lemon rind, light coriander, toffee, and a very light sprinkling of leek fragments. The taste brings in more of the same, with more lemon rind, a touch of orange peel, and a light sensation of pine. Not bad at all. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry, lightly sticky finish. Overall, a very nice IPA, one that doesn't overdo it on the hops in any direction, doesn't "over-balance", and keeps things simple and tasty. Right on, brother.

22 oz bottle poured into a Solemn Oath tulip.
6% ABV,

A - Deep golden raw honey on the verge of being amber, Kidnapped by Vikings is a hazed beer that forms a lasting off-white head with dots of lace left in it's wake.

S - Fresh, juicy hops bring the pineapple and mango tropical fruitiness but give this glass a swirl and dank marijuana and sour apple Blow Pop, complete with bubblegum, join the mix! Hops steal the show but smooth caramel malt makes for a seductively sweet base.

T - Like the aroma before it, Kidnapped by Vikings is straight hop in your face but the flavor changes course towards even more fruity flavor. The Blow Pop is still there too, it's just more of a blue raspberry taste mixed with ripe tropical fruits; this beer is almost a girly drink! Pineapple, mango, passion fruit, and melon join the fun in this ridiculously tasty IPA!

M - Kidnapped by Vikings' smooth body starts medium full for it's lower alcohol content but quickly turns refreshing and crisp from the abundant hops which dry out the palate and leave a spectacular bitterness on the tongue.

O - Who knew being Kidnapped by Vikings would be so damn delicious? Solemn Oath proves it with this powerfully hoppy yet slightly restrained IPA, which showcases an abundance of tasty tropical fruits. Smooth, easy drinking, and fresh as hell, this is one of the better IPAs I've had as of late.

22oz bottle, no apparent freshness date other than "SOB 2014", 6.0% also listed on label
L - hazed amber-orange colored ale topped with a creamy ivory head, good retention and lacing
S - juicy, fruity, citric, orange, grapefruit, lemon, grass, caramel; very fresh aroma
T - grapefruit rind, pine, orange, caramel malt, herbal, and tea-like
F - thin-to-medium body, sharp, bitter, semi-dry finish
O - good American IPA from a local brewery just a couple of miles from my house. It's nice to finally see them bottling some of their beer. At its price point ($6.99), which is unfortunately pretty fair these days, I don't think I'd buy this again seeing as there are many less expensive, better options available. Still glad to try one.

1747th Review on BA
Draft to Pint

@Bavarian Lodge, Lisle, IL

App- When this was put on the bar it did look like a bit of a mix of IPA colors. A bit orange with yellows and haziness mixed in. The center was a bit deeper and richer than the rest was. The edges are a bit clearer. The head was a nice wite 2 finger with sticky cling for days.

Smell- When I got this one it was a bit of a mix of aromatics. A bit of a cat pee hops with a bit of pine and then thrown in is the deep tropical flavors and aromatics that bring a bit of dry grass as well.

Taste- I enjoyed this beer. It was a classic american IPA with decent flavors. It was a bit dry with some good spicy hops and a little bit of a balanced tropical fruit flavor behind it. It wasnt overly bitter but did have some good grainular flavors behind it.

Mouth- A semi medium body with a bit of thiness behind it and then moves into a semi bubbly medium carbonation. A bit of the cat pee flavor remains and has a nice dry flavor as well. A little bit like a pine tree intermixed with grapefruit.

Drink- I have been waiting to try some Solemn Oath beers and this was very good. I will have to have some more of it soon.

On tap at Pints in Elmhurst. They usually have one or two of this brewery's beer going at any given time.

Served in a shaker, the beer is bronze/orange with a fluffy beige head. It has pretty nice lacing.

Nose of grapefruit and caramel malts. There is also a tropical fruit note that is a cross between mango and juicy fruit gum.

The taste follows the nose. Nice citrus and tropical bitterness balanced by slightly sweet malts. Balanced with more spicy notes mid glass.

Mouth is pleasantly oily and a bit coating. I like this one and am glad to see it in regular rotation.
